ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.

The World Food Programme’s engagement in the Philippines is constantly evolving. Initially commencing operations in the 1960s, WFP officially re-established its presence in 2006 to support the peace process in Mindanao, provide life-saving food assistance in emergencies and develop programmes that seek to improve nutrition and the overall quality of life of vulnerable people.

Since 1 July 2018, WFP has been implementing a five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2018-2023) to support the Government of the Philippines to address food insecurity, reduce malnutrition and building the resilience of vulnerable populations. In its strategic plan, WFP identified four outcomes and five main activities:

• Strategic outcome 1: Crisis-affected people in the Philippines can meet their food and nutrition needs during and immediately after an emergency. • Strategic outcome 2: Women, boys and girls in provinces prioritized by the Government have adequate and healthy diets to reduce malnutrition by 2022 in line with government targets. • Strategic outcome 3: Vulnerable communities in Mindanao have improved food security and nutrition by 2022 in line with government targets. • Strategic outcome 4: National and local government agencies have enhanced capabilities to reduce vulnerability to shocks by 2022.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position reports to the Communications Officer, with functional supervision from the Regional Communications Officer, to ensure that the CO communications activities serve WFP needs in the country of assignment, taking into consideration the overall regional communications plan and WFP’s corporate communications goals.

JOB PURPOSE

To support the Partnerships, Communications and Reports unit through the production of creative multimedia content. This individual will also support WFP’s social media presence.

To perform general administrative and some specialized communications processes that support the creation of communications content and the delivery of communications services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Gather and create multimedia content including photos, videos and information for print stories as necessary especially during trips to the field • Maintain photo/video database(s) in the Country Office as well as in WFP’s multimedia hub • Support video pre and post-production including preparation of photo and video briefs, scripting, editing and camera work • Support audio and visual needs of events including donor visits, project launch, distribution of assistance, conferences and meetings • Utilize multimedia products for greater engagement of online audiences • Support and maintain WFP’s social media presence • Support online editorial calendar to ensure staff are producing targeted, high-quality content for the website and social media platforms • Proactively identify and pursue story ideas for online platforms • Edit online content • Provide general administrative support to communications activities as needed

In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes. Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Completion of university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, and other related fields
  • Experience: At least four (4) or more years of work experience in the related field
  • Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Tagalog

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• One – two years of professional work experience in digital media communications • Has gained experience in digital media communications

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

  • Approximate monthly based salary: PHP 50,000++ min to PHP 67,000++ max
  • Medical insurance coverage that can be extended to eligible dependents
