You have:
- Demonstrated interest in communications development, media relations, journalism, publishing or related field.
- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, such as studies, volunteer work, internship, would be highly regarded.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
FAO Kazakhstan office is involved in various projects aimed at enhancing food security and agricultural sustainability. These projects encompass a wide range of activities focused on promoting sustainable agrifood systems and ensuring sustainable climate-resilient natural resource management. The office collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to implement innovative solutions and best practices in agrifood systems. These initiatives include providing technical assistance, conducting research, and developing policies to support sustainable development. FAO Kazakhstan also focuses on capacity building and training programs to empower farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to improve productivity and resilience. Additionally, the office is committed to supporting rural development and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable populations.
Under the direct supervision of OiC of FAO Kazakhstan office and Programme Coordinator the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Support Communications Specialist in updating content promoting FAO’s work in Kazakhstan for use on FAO corporate websites and social media, ensuring adherence to FAO policies and style guidelines. • Support Communications Specialist in drafting newsworthy press releases and success stories on FAO projects in Kazakhstan, coordinating with project and programme staff. • Assist in updating the communications plan for the FAO country office in Kazakhstan. • Support the FAO Kazakhstan team in organizing awareness-raising campaigns/events, such as World Food Day and other relevant UN Days. • Assist Communications Specialist in answering queries and provide information to the media. • Assist to the Communication Specialist in preparation of visual production designs such as brochures, leaflets, cards, and banners. • Support the Communication Specialist in preparation of video materials for social media.

Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, is a modern and rapidly developing urban center known for its unique and futuristic architecture. The city offers a high standard of living with access to various amenities including shopping centers, restaurants, and recreational facilities. The climate is characterized by cold winters and hot summers, so appropriate clothing is necessary. Public transportation is well-developed, making it easy to navigate the city. Healthcare services in Astana are of a high standard, and there are several international schools and cultural institutions. Overall, Astana provides a comfortable and vibrant living environment for international staff and volunteers.
As of February 2025 International UN University Volunteers in Kazakhstan receive USD 1540/month as their Volunteer Living Allowance.
