The Communications Assistant at the UNFPA Uzbekistan office will play a vital role in advancing the organization’s mandate by supporting strategic communications and advocacy efforts. Working closely with the communications team, the UN Volunteer will contribute to the implementation of communication plans, development of outreach materials, and management of social media platforms. This position offers an opportunity to develop communication skills in an international setting while contributing to transformative change for the people of Uzbekistan.

The Communications Assistant at the UNFPA Uzbekistan office will support the implementation of communication strategies and advocacy initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, youth empowerment, reproductive health, and population dynamics. Key responsibilities include creating and managing content for social media, drafting and editing press releases, newsletters, and success stories, and developing visual materials aligned with UNFPA branding. The assistant will help organize and provide coverage for events, workshops, and campaigns, as well as maintain relationships with local media and monitor coverage. Additional tasks involve supporting the execution of advocacy campaigns, documenting best practices, and assisting with administrative duties such as maintaining archives and coordinating communication calendars. Through these activities, the Communications Assistant will play an essential role in amplifying UNFPA’s mission and engaging key stakeholders in Uzbekistan.

Under the direct supervision of UNFPA Communications and Advocacy Programme Associate Nazokatkhon Fayzullaeva, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Content Development

Draft and edit communication materials, including press releases, articles, success stories, newsletters, and social media content. Create visual materials such as infographics, presentations, and promotional assets in line with UNFPA branding guidelines.

  1. Social Media Management

Manage and update UNFPA Uzbekistan’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.). Develop and implement social media campaigns to promote key initiatives and international observances.

  1. Event Support

Assist in the planning, coordination, and coverage of events, workshops, and campaigns. Capture and document events through photography, videography, and post-event reporting.

  1. Media Relations

Maintain relationships with local media outlets and support media outreach activities. Monitor media coverage and prepare media monitoring reports.

  1. Advocacy Campaigns

Provide support in developing and implementing advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns, including those on gender equality, youth empowerment, and reproductive health.

  1. Knowledge Sharing

Assist in documenting best practices and success stories from UNFPA’s projects. Support internal communication efforts, including team briefings and updates.

  1. Administrative Support

Perform administrative tasks related to communications, such as maintaining a content archive, coordinating printing services, and managing communication calendars.

Uzbekistan, located in Central Asia, offers a safe and culturally rich environment. Tashkent, the capital, provides modern amenities, affordable living costs, and reliable public transportation, including buses and a metro system. While Uzbek is the official language, Russian is widely spoken. Healthcare is accessible in cities, but comprehensive insurance is advised. The country experiences a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Volunteers are encouraged to respect local customs and traditions for smooth integration.
