Contract

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To contribute to the design and management of the communications strategy of WCO consistent with WHO corporate goals and priority.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Drafting substantive written material for the Office of the WR as requested, including statements, briefings, op-eds, opinions, articles, talking points, key messages, and other written communications. This may include targeted messages for internal communications within the United Nations or for specific stakeholders and partners.
  • Extracting key messages from speeches/presentations/articles for dissemination through social media channels, in close collaboration with the Programme Management Officer
  • Undertaking original research on a range of development topics (within the context of UN system, Country Cooperation Strategy and Sustainable Development Goals) as needed to substantively inform the speechwriting process.
  • Supports the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies, supports business development
  • Organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, seminars, interviews
  • Organization and implementation of joint UN information campaigns (UN Day, World AIDS Day, Malaria day etc.)
  • Ensures the design and maintenance of the WHO web site, intranet, CO web-based knowledge management system
  • Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Completion of secondary education; supplemented by technical or university courses in communications, journalism, international relations.

Desirable: First level degree in Communications, journalism; social sciences.

Experience:

Essential: At least 10 years’ experience in communication, journalism, media (print, broadcast and electronic or public

Desirable: Experience in design of website and social media, maintaining and updating current information. Experience working for UN or other international organization.

Skills

  • In depth knowledge of communications approaches, tools, and methodologies
  • Ability to deliver oral presentations to various audiences
  • Ability to keep abreast of available technology willingness to learn new technology
