Communications Assistant
Result of Service Outcome: Based on the above functions, the following are the expected outcomes: - Compilation of all mentions of the work of the United Nations in national media; - Relevant documents, speeches and declarations translated; and - Topical analysis of media trends produced
Work Location Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Expected duration The duration of contract will be for the period of 6 months or, in special circumstances, 9 work-months in any period of 12 consecutive months on a full-time basis starting from the day of signing the contract and extendable.
Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) and working closely with the Department for Safety and Security, the communication assistant will provide high quality communication outputs. The communication assistant should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, tact and ability to work with people of varying hierarchical, national and cultural backgrounds. The communication assistant will ensure effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of assignment, management of information flow and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.
Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in administration or office management or related fields is desirable. Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in general office support or related area. Good communication skills; sensitivity and willingness/flexibility to respond to client’s needs; Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat (English or French) is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable.
