UNOPS-ETMCO is recruiting for this position: Partnerships and Communications Intern based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Since its creation, ETMCO has been an active member of the United Nations Country Team, working closely with other UN organizations to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ETMCO designs projects to reinforce and bolster development priorities of the host governments and other partners in sustainable procurement, project management and infrastructure through direct implementation, advisory and transactional services. ETMCO is committed to promoting the principles of sustainability and national capacity development through meaningful contributions, and serving people in need. In 2022, UNOPS ETMCO delivered more than $187.5 million in services. Established in 2009, UNOPS Ethiopia Office has been providing services to various partners, including the government of Ethiopia, UN agencies such as WHO, UNHCR and WFP, and other international organizations. In 2014, the UNOPS Executive Director decided to establish the UNOPS Ethiopia Multi Country Office (ETMCO), which manages and coordinates the UNOPS activities in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti.

The Partnerships and Communications Intern will work in the Ethiopia Multi-Country Office based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and will report to the Communications Officer. S/he will support the Partnerships Unit by conducting research on donors and market trends, supporting the implementation of the Communications Plan in order to increase the visibility of UNOPS in the sub-region by communicating on our results and activities, and by providing administrative support to the development and finalization of project documents.

The internship is a learning and working opportunity that targets fresh graduates. The intern will assist the Partnership and Communication team and provide support to the Ethiopia Multi-Country Office (ETMCO). The intern will be exposed to practical learning and working experiences that foster development of his /her path. The Intern will work full time and follow the same working hours as UNOPS employees.

Functional Responsibilities

The intern will have an opportunity to have on the job training and will be working on the below listed tasks;

Communications :

  • Support the preparation of external communication materials, including factsheets, articles, infographics, videos and other materials,customized for target key audiences such as donors, UN agencies, governments, foundations, NGOs, civil society and private sector for effective outreach among existing and potential partners.
  • Assist with social media content management and scheduling.
  • Support in drafting contents, presentations, correspondence, briefings, talking points and all other external communication material.
  • Support Partner Surveys and resulting action plans.
  • Support with other communications task to ensure the support to EMCO’s communications and resource mobilization activities.

Business intelligence :

  • Assist in conducting analysis and mapping of donor priorities, areas of focus and geographical priorities as well as national country strategies.
  • Assist in research events, publications and announcements, to track and screen opportunities for possible UNOPS interventions and identify trends that will drive partnership opportunities.

Partnerships and project development :

  • Support the EMCO’s efforts in liaising with potential donors, funding partners, agencies and institutions.
  • Support in the development of project-related documents including project descriptions, budgets, legal accords, risk registers and gender action plans.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or related fields.
  • Applicants should have graduated from the above-stated fields within three (3) years prior to the date of the application for the internship.

Work experience

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Skills in researching, writing and editing content that is clear, concise and effectively conveying key messages to target audiences is an asset.
  • Detail focused and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment is an an advantage.

Language requirements - Fluency in English ( reading, written and spoken) is required. - Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

Skills - Experience/knowledge of Google Suite products is an asset. - Knowledge of software packages for publication such as Adobe Creative Suite – especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro or other relevant products commonly used is an added advantage.
