ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Communications and Partnerships Associate will perform its duties under the direct supervision of Communications and Partnerships Officer, in close coordination, support and collaboration with the Head of the Cotabato Sub Office. The Job holder at this level demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. The job holder will also work in close collaboration with the other relevant colleagues.

JOB PURPOSE

The role will support the Cotabato Sub Office in communicating, reporting, and external relations related to WFP activities in the BARMM and Mindanao region. The Communications and Partnership Associate will perform duties related to fostering seamless working relationships with the Communications and Partnerships counterparts of the BARMM ministries, contributing to the presentation of a standard and consistent operating picture of WFP operations; supporting effective management of relationships and collaboration with media and other external partners; and ensuring a flow of relevant information between WFP and partners that facilitates timely decision-making at all levels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Partnerships Development

  • Assist the Partnerships and Communications Officer and the Sub Cotabato Office in the development of donor and partnership proposals to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, and support fundraising activities.
  • Prepare and provide regular information to educate new and potential partners on the WFP CSP, including development and distribution of communication materials for the Philippine Country Office.
  • Support the building and maintenance of effective relationships with BARMM-based government ministries, United Nations agencies, non-government organizations, and other partners.
  • Support the preparation of the Standard Project Reports (SPR) for the Annual Reporting Exercise in collaboration with the relevant units (Nutrition, M&E, Logistics, Pipeline/Resource Management) to ensure coherence and quality of performance information.
  • Collate relevant information and data from media and local internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow, to provide operational awareness and understanding of events that may have humanitarian, developmental or operational impact.

Communications

  • Perform specialized Communications processes and activities, including but not limited to contributing to the development of a Communication strategy, creating content using storytelling to disseminate WFP’s work BARRM, drafting and seeking the Communications Officer's approval for press releases and media advisories, talking points and support public-facing events of the Cotabato sub-office.
  • Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic, infographics, radio spots, and other Communications projects.
  • Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
  • Serve as an information focal point and coordinate media coverage of the Cotabato sub-office.
  • Organize and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, including but not limited to donor events, programmatic workshops and seminars.
  • Assist in the organization of media and donor visits to Cotabato Sub office sites.
  • Monitor traditional and social media output related to the Cotabato Sub office.
  • Prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  • Coordinate the translation of communication products to and from Filipino, Cotabato dialect to English
  • Ensure information is accurate, organized, and available for others to access.
  • Update WFP Philippines country page with BARMM related information
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes. Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Communications or other relevant field, with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
  • Experience: At least 3 years or more professional experience and exposure to communication strategies, donor relations and reporting, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Knowledge of information management best practices, techniques and processes, and ability to analyse and interpret diverse information, and draw out the key messages.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate insights to stakeholders, persuade, influence and adapt communication style to different situations and individuals.
    • Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP specific processes and systems. Experience in the UN desirable
    • Proficiency in the use of Canva, Microsoft desktop publishing, Social Media, and/or Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign)
  • Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English, Filipino and applicable dialect in Cotabato.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Has gained experience in utilizing specialist communications techniques to enhance functional outputs
  • Has existing media and governtment in-roads, and is willing to invest in growing his or her network in the BARMM and Mindanao region.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

Approximate monthly base salary: PHP 59,000 Min to PHP76, 000 Max
