Communications and Partnerships Adviser to the IFC Managing Director

Description

The Office of the IFC Managing Director (Front Office) offers a unique opportunity to view the institution from a strategic and high-level perspective. The Front Office consists of professionals that support the Managing Director (MD) in every aspect of his work. This involves managing interactions with the Vice-Presidential Units (VPUs), with the Board, across the WBG’s entities, and with external partners and clients.

The Office of the IFC Managing Director is seeking to recruit a Communications and Partnerships Adviser to become part of the team supporting the MD. The successful candidate will have extensive executive communications experience and a solid knowledge of private sector development. We seek a dynamic candidate with exceptional writing skills, strategic thinking in the communications and partnerships space, extensive experience working with senior leaders, and the ability to develop content in their voice and style, including on social media. The position is based in Washington D.C. and will report to the MD’s Chief of Staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications and Partnerships Adviser to the IFC MD will work within the broader Front Office team, sharing information on key initiatives and developments and contributing to a cohesive, client and outcome-oriented work environment. S/he will model a commitment to impact, innovation, integrity, respect, and teamwork.

The Communications and Partnerships Adviser will ensure planning, development, and implementation of effective communications and outreach strategies to support the IFC MD’s corporate, internal, and operational activities. S/he will lead the development of the MD’s strategic communication and messaging, relationship management with media, partnerships and other stakeholders, and the preparation, delivery and evaluation of activities, products, and campaigns about the MD’s work.

• Strengthen strategic partnerships and identify and develop new partnerships with key partners and stakeholders, including the media, the private sector, and donors.

• Provide strategic advice and support to the MD on all communications and partnership-related issues, both internally and externally.

• Write and edit speeches, op-eds, blogs, and talking points, oversee all multimedia content for the MD, and champion IFC’s story through thought leadership content.

• Oversight and day-to-day management of the MD social media presence, including driving growth and engagement.

• Develop and execute comprehensive internal and external communications strategies in partnership with key internal stakeholders, benchmarked against the best in our field and leveraging the MD’s voice and influence.

• Strategically seek out opportunities to position the MD externally, leveraging his presence at high-profile events, speaking engagements, and media interviews, working closely with the broader communications team to identify engagement opportunities that drive impact.

• Contribute to the broader effort to boost and strengthen the quality of IFC editorial content.

• Mitigate reputation risk and support crisis communications as needed.

• Support MD’s country visits, including interviews with local and regional outlets, multimedia content, and internal and external events.

Selection Criteria

• An advanced degree in journalism, communications, international relations, economics, public affairs, or other related fields, with 8 or more years of experience editing/writing a diverse set of communications products – including blogs, editorials, feature articles/stories, speeches, statements, messages, annual letters, forewords, video scripts, and social media posts.

• Deep experience in communication on global environment issues, with a high-level ability to communicate with internal and external partners, based on their communication needs.

• Outstanding written, presentation, and oral communications skills, with proven experience in dealing with the media, external constituencies, and expert groups. Ability to develop and tailor complex content/information into clear messages in an accessible way to different audiences.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to write in different formats, shifting voice and style as needed.

• Intellectual leadership, with a track record of successful communication programs to achieve results.

• A deep understanding of the media landscape and stakeholder and influencer dynamics, and drivers of reputation.

• Excellent judgment and extensive experience in reputational risk management.

• Deep knowledge of media trends and network of media contacts.

• A proven track record of producing creative content and building innovative partnerships with top-tier media.

• A sharp analytical and strategic mind, excellent political judgment and diplomatic skills, a proven ability to work across teams and issues, a strong leadership record, high initiative, and drive for results.

• Ability to effectively influence and collaborate to achieve team goals.

• Knowledge of global development issues and business in emerging markets and developing countries

• Strong work ethic that embraces collaborating, finding solutions, and getting the job done with meticulous attention to detail and effective organizational skills to deliver on multiple priorities.

• Proven ability to think strategically and rapidly analyze diverse information from varied sources and an ability to learn, adapt, and to be innovative.

• Fluency in English and French.
