GENERAL BACKGROUND OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Climate change is one of the eight Focus Areas as outlined in the High Commissioner’s Strategic Directions 2022-2026, where accelerated and targeted action as needed. With climate action as a strategic priority for the organization as well as a necessity for UNHCR to diversify its funding streams, UNHCR has set up the Climate Financing Hub that will spearhead all Climate related fundraising initiatives in UNHCR globally. The Climate Financing Hub has been created with the expressed objective of raising new and additional sources of funding for climate action.
The individual contractor will contribute to internal knowledge management, internal and external communication supporting strategic positioning and fundraising efforts for climate action for UNHCR. S/he will work coordinate closely colleagues across divisions, in particular the Global Communications Service.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT: FULL-TIME, 100%, OFFICE-BASED CONTRACT DURATION: 6 MONTHS CONTRACT LOCATIOON: GENEVA, SWITZERLAND MISSION NOT APPLICABLE
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Communications • Support in the creation of knowledge and information/communication products for the Climate Financing Hub, such as fact sheets, briefs and other documents for internal and external use • Support in the development of visual presentations for strategic meetings • Serve as focal point for the Climate Action page on Global Focus, a dedicated site for Donor Communication. • Support in the compilation and packaging of success stories on climate action, through liaising with Regional Bureaus and Operations. • Support the Global Communications Service with the management of team minutes and task allocation of climate communications working groups, updating the climate communications toolkit, and other key communications activities for 2024. • Act as focal point for internal comms effort on climate in coordination with the Climate Financing Hub and the Global Communications Service.
Knowledge Management • Lead on the creation of an internal Sharepoint site for the Climate Financing Hub to be a resource for UNHCR staff, particularly fundraisers and a platform for all UNHCR Climate Fundraising materials. • Manage the sharepoint site, ensuring that it is user experience is optimized
Administration and Logistics Support on the administrative and logistical aspects in the organization of meetings in Geneva with external stakeholders such as donor briefings, and including meeting minutes and summary notes.
Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience. Language: Fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset. Skills: • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey and adapt messages to diverse audiences. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365, including Powerpoint and Sharepoint. • Ability to work flexibly and manage multiple tasks and deadlines • Cultural competency and ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
• Knowledge of climate action, climate financing, humanitarian and sustainable development sectors is an advantage.Standard Job Description
