The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern and Central Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization, and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. This position will be based in Regional Logistics Unit and will report to the head of the unit or his/her designate.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Logistics Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Responsible for information & Communication management of the unit in close coordination with the unit head or relevant staff, facilitate meeting coordination/ minutes, collaboration with other units/stakeholders • Implement unit-specific information and communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility, as well as support fundraising activities where required, ensuring alignment with overall IM & communications WFP corporate strategies • Generate donor-specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos, meeting minutes, and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with regional corporate messages • Collate outreach data contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, Support information management and communications activities that enable informed decision-making and ensures consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders • Monitor and analyze traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies • Liaise and interact with unit staff and internal /external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to IM and communications within WFP. • Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise. • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to support WFP to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis Results/Expected Outputs • Preparing regular reports to increase visibility on logistics activities in the region for inter-nal and external users. • Ensure quality and consistency of the communication activities that enable informed decision making

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethi-opia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; Na-tional Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
