Yemen is facing an unprecedented political, humanitarian, and development crisis. Yemen’s transition that started in 2011 with the support of the international community tragically unravelled after the conclusion of the National Dialogue Conference in January 2014 and spiralled into a full-blown conflict by March 2015 with uncertain prospects of a peaceful political solution.

Yemen has long been a Least Developed Country and the poorest in the Arab region. Before the conflict, more than half of the 25 million population were already below the poverty line and 8 million people were receiving humanitarian assistance. Now it is estimated that more than 82% of the population are in need of assistance. With civilian casualties rising, Yemenis are suffering from multiple and entrenched hardships.

The incumbent will play a key role in supporting planning and implementing of communicating the successes of UNDP across UNDP Country Office, working in close collaboration with Country Office and project-based Communications Officers and their partners. S/he will report directly to the UNDP Team Lead for Communications and Advocacy based in Sana’a and will be expected to maintain close relationships with programme/project staff in Hodeidah, Aden, other sub-offices, and at the CO level.

The Communications and Graphic Design Associate will, under the direct supervision of the Team Lead for Communications and Advocacy – and in collaboration with the rest of the Country Office Communications Team, provide real-time support for the preparation and designing of communication materials (Reports, Factsheets, multimedia products…etc.). S/he will take pro-active lead in creating visual content related to relevant country efforts to develop communication materials for dissemination through social and traditional media channels; the Communications and Graphic Design Associate will provide support in general communications tasks and maintaining close collaboration with organizations and individuals whose support is essential to promote UNDP’s cross-sectoral efforts in Yemen; the incumbent will assist in achieving the Communications Unit overall strategy and contributing to the Country Office’s overarching goals.

Here is a list of key duties and accountabilities: - Maintains Quality Visual Presentation of UNDP CO in both Traditional and social media: o Representing the brand correctly within UNDP Unified Brand Manual. o Applying knowledge of process and branding to successfully execute and complete various types of visual materials (static and animated): social cards, brochures, newsletters, factsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and any other material. o Delivering creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based and Design and layout of reports and other products. o Improve and edit artwork, photos, charts, and other graphic elements. o Custom photo editing. o Executing document layout, design, and revisions. o Reviewing final layouts and suggesting improvements, as needed. o Generating designs from concepts to final delivery and actively contributing to the creative process. o Maintaining archive of all produced products, including editable and final files, ensuring files are accurate, organized, and available for others to access. o Ensuring that the production of communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up to supporting the Country Office overall strategy. - Contributes to General Communications tasks: o Performing specialized communications processes and activities, to support staff in the development, preparation, execution, and dissemination of campaigns for target audiences. o Developing plans for specific communications requirements. o Helping in evaluating communication campaigns designed for the Country Office. o Performing communications research and analysis to ensure timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audiences. o Maintaining and updating a database of media outlets ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed by reporting critical information to the supervisor for development and/or evaluation purposes. o Composing, editing, and translating media content upon request while striving for “zero tolerance” of errors when editing, proofreading, spell checking documents, when applicable. o Developing and gathering of communication content during missions on the field as required. o Providing overall support to the country office communication strategy. - Other duties: o Providing support to the team by maintain the Country Office website and social media accounts when the assigned officer is on leave. o Attending team meetings and communicating work status and availability of support materials for projects in their related work. o In coordination with project communications officers, supporting communications tasks including reviewing draft publications and recommend revisions, as needed. o Performing ad-hoc job-related duties as assigned.

      media relations, journalism, public policy, or related area of study. A Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of experience

• Relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications, advocacy or a related field. • Proven experience in general communications and using design programmes (e.g. Creative Cloud Suit). • Experience in developing and implementing information campaigns will be a strong asset. • Strong story writing and drafting skills in English and Arabic is mandatory. • Experience using computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems is required. • Fluency in English and Arabic is required, both written and spoken.
