SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP: This position will provide essential support to the IRC in San Diego’s Development Team, supporting efforts to engage stakeholders through planning strategic events and broader development initiatives. The intern plays a crucial role in engaging the community to support the work of the IRC in substantial and beneficial ways, including critical administrative support around IRC in San Diego’s community engagement and online presence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Support the planning of IRC in San Diego fundraising events in a virtual format, including strategy around social media, outreach, sponsorship research, and ticket sales - Brainstorm and develop a strategic outreach plan to target new community partners, university contacts, and other groups to support IRC events - Maintain IRC webpages & social media and ensure information is up to date and updated regularly - Assist with content gathering and storytelling projects for web and social media - Help transcribe client interviews and gather content for IRC social media accounts - Support the Development Team in obtaining in-kind donations for refugee and asylum-seeking clients - Provide administrative support to the Development Team by assisting with data entry, production of acknowledgments, and other cultivation activities - Help the Development Team engage and interact with community partners - Attend weekly meetings with the Development Team and bi-weekly staff meetings

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

- Student will learn how to plan and execute major fundraising and community events - Student will learn about strategic planning for fundraising and communications - Student will learn about administrative processes in the non-profit space.

This is a Spring 2024 internship with anticipated start time being January 8th, 2024.

Qualifications - Detail-oriented and able to multi-task efficiently - Currently in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or graduated within one year, preferably event planning, marketing, communications or related area of study - Experience in event planning, sales or marketing, or managing social media a plus - Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; - Able to work in fast-paced, deadline driven, team-oriented environment; - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; - Experience in graphic design or Canva a plus - Proficient in spoken and written English - This position reports to the Development and Community Relations Coordinator. - Compensation: This is an unpaid internship opportunity.

Working Environment:

Standard, professional office environment, including the current hybrid mode of remote work.

San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm. Selected interns can choose their hours based on this window of availability.
