Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations (UN) in Botswana consists of 22 separate entities which are coordinated by the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO). The Resident Coordinator (RC) and the RCO team, lead, supports and coordinate the UN entities in the country, to ensure collaboration, coherence and impact in the UN’s collective support to the people and Government of Botswana. The RCO has a range of full time professional and administration experts to help achieve its work but wishes to enhance it’s work through additional short term consultancy support.

The UN RCO is recruiting an individual contractor to support with Communication and Media Analysis, with focus on analysis of media/ news sources in Botswana on specific topics to be identified by the RC. Some analysis will extend to regional ad global sources, Distilled analysis will be provided regularly in writing and orally, to help the RCO with context on key development issues. Further, the individual contractor will support the RC with specific communication tasks as per his needs. The role is also envisaged as a capacity building role for graduates to gain work experience in an established office and in the multilateral system.

Under the supervision of the Resident Coordinator the individual contractor will: 1.Analysis: based on identified topical issues, regularly gather information from various media sources nationally and internationally and present a weekly distilled summary and analysis to the RC, written and verbal. 2.Research: based on selected development issues, conduct research and analysis which will guide the RC in his communication and advocacy work. 3.Communication: support the RC with gathering data and formulating messages for speeches, social media messaging and other communication channels.

Qualifications/special skills High School diploma is required. First Level Degree is desirable. A minimum of 3 years experience in human rights and gender, coordination, advocacy, strategic partnerships building, communications, media etc is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage. Knowledge of Setswana is desired.
