Office/Unit/Project Description

The UN Secretary-General established the UN SDG Action Campaign to inspire people and organizations from all backgrounds and every part of the world to take actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while holding decision-makers to account for progress society-wide. The UN SDG Action Campaign is hosted and supported by the Executive Office of UNDP and is based in Bonn (Germany) with a lean team that marshals rapid support for new initiatives as opportunities arise and provides partners with on-demand strategic creative services that inspire SDG action with an engaged community of activists and concerned individuals.

Through compelling and creative SDG outreach and communications, the UN SDG Action Campaign serves UN Member States and the United Nations whilst bridging thinkers and doers from civil society, local governments, youth groups, think tanks, the arts and culture, the media and the business world. It mobilizes individuals to champion the SDGs in homes, communities and beyond. At a moment of acute crisis in our world, the UN SDG Action Campaign seizes opportunities to rethink messaging, calls to action and reorient policymaking towards the Goals.

Through tailored advocacy and communications, the Campaign builds powerful networks that reach millions worldwide, urge decision-makers to act and impel momentum. Finally, it uses data, technology and innovation to empower people with the knowledge and tools to become actively involved in supporting their governments with SDG implementation and to continue to involve as many people as possible in relevant decision-making processes.

The UN SDG Action Campaign aims to further strengthen its outreach, advocacy and strategic communication to underscore the positive impact of its work through advocacy initiatives designed to inspire and mobilize SDG action and engagement from individuals and organizations.

In order to effectively deliver on the above, the UN SDG Action Campaign is seeking to recruit an Communications Analyst to support communications outreach activities to enhance visibility and position the UN SDG Action Campaign through media-related activities, public mobilization campaigns, and policy-focused advocacy with key stakeholders and influencers.

Institutional Arrangement

The Communications Analyst will report to and be directly supervised by the Communications Specialist and under the overall guidance of the Outreach and Advocacy Specialist and will be given access to relevant information necessary for execution of the tasks under this assignment. The Communications Analyst is expected to work at UN Bonn Office in Germany.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Support the Communications team on the design and production of creative assets for the UN SDG Action Campaign’s initiatives

  • Support creation and posting of social media and editorial content including video, audio, infographics, memes, and animations - for distribution across digital platforms such as websites, mailchimp, medium, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, IG, Linkedin and Youtube
  • Support the production of monthly newsletters, websites and Campaign toolkits.
  • Support on photo and video production content for external and internal events
  • Support studio production processes such as for events and speaking engagements
  • Support on branding and positioning process such as the Flip the Script Campaign
  • Support on partner outreach activities such as the Global Week to #Act4SDGs
  • Support event production such as the UN SDG Action Awards
  • Support the Director for in-studio video recordings and live apparences via Zoom and other digital platforms, including tech-checks

Communications experience in an international environment;

Experience in working on hybrid virtual/physical events is desired. Experience in digital platforms and social media, especially in the context of large scale global mobilizations and/or large scale international events;

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section

Experience in video editing and photography is an advantage

Experience in digital communications and global advocacy and campaigning in the context of the UN system is an asset;

Required Language(s)

Fluent in English, Knowledge of additional UN Languages is an asset
