UNOPS in Ukraine provides a broad spectrum of services to the Government and the people of Ukraine with a portfolio of projects in the areas of rule of law, environment, energy efficiency, crisis recovery, good governance, human resources management, procurement, and logistics.

The Support for Rule of Law Reforms in Ukraine – PRAVO Police is a programme funded by the European Union that has been designed to support the creation of an efficient law-enforcement system respectful of human rights in support of the people of Ukraine, through the provision of necessary support to the National Police and other Ukrainian authorities in charge of civilian law enforcement.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

The Communications Analyst - Digital and Content - Photographer will, under general guidance of the Communication Officer, be responsible for the production and editing of high-quality photos and/or photo feature stories about the Support for Rule of Law Reforms in Ukraine Project.

Functional Responsibilities

The selected incumbent will undertake the following activities/responsibilities:

  • Production of photos and human interest photo and multimedia stories during PRAVO-Law Enforcement Project’s events, conferences, field visits, photo tours and other key activities
  • Provision of at least five digital photos immediately on site for instant distribution on social media and with the press release
  • Provision of at least 20 selected “best of” digital photos on a CD, DVD or via file transfer within 24 hours upon the completion of the covered Project activity. The photos provided via file transfer, CD and DVD must be named in line with the respective Programme configuration management guidelines (to include the photo date, location, and subject) and provided in both low and high resolution (minimum 300 dpi) in JPG format
  • Editing of photos, including retouching and correction
  • Production of high-quality photos for publications
  • Facilitation with media outlets on publishing human interest photo and multimedia stories
  • Assisting the establishment and maintenance of the Project’s photo database
  • Providing advice to PRAVO Law Enforcement Project’s personal regarding photography
  • Provision of photos from the visits/meetings/missions of/with the donor and other high officials
  • Ensuring publication of selected photo and multimedia human interest stories in influential mainstream and digital media outlets

Please note that the Communications Analyst - Digital and Content - Photographer must have his/her own equipment and be available for travel, with the team or independently, as needed. Travel expenses will be compensated separately in line with UNOPS internal policies and practices.

Copyrights

  • All copyrights of produced photos are reserved to UNOPS. The photos cannot be altered, sold, or redistributed to third parties. Where appropriate, the Photojournalist will be credited according to relevant UNOPS standards.

Monitoring and Project Controls

  • High-quality photos of main activities produced and provided within 24 hours
  • At least five digital photos in low resolution provided immediately on-site for instant distribution on social media and with press release
  • High-quality photos for publications produced in line with the timeline agreed with the Communications Officer
  • Effective assistance provided for the establishment and maintenance of photo database, as per instructions received from the Communications Officer
  • Production of photo and multimedia human interest stories for traditional, digital and social media platforms (including but not limited to Exposure, Medium and other)

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education (Level and area of required and/or preferred education)

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferably in communications, journalism, visual storytelling, arts, media, or other related areas is required

b. Work Experience

  • Minimum 4 years post bachelor’s degree or 6 years of post secondary education of relevant and proven professional experience at a similar position with responsibilities including experience in covering high-level events and conferences is required.
  • Knowledge of local and national media scene in the project’s area of responsibility is an advantage

  • Experience in working with Google Workspace, Internet, Photoshop

  • Previous experience with UNOPS or a UN Agency will be considered as an advantage

c. Language Requirements

  • Fluency in Russian and Ukrainian is required
  • Working knowledge of English will be considered as an asset

d. Additional Requirements

The Photojournalist is responsible for arranging his/her own high quality digital camera and other related professional equipment.
