STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: More than 3 years of experience in communications or related fields in Japan.

EDUCATION: University degree with experience and advanced training/courses in one or more of the following disciplines: journalism, international relations, communications, marketing or other relevant fields, or relevant professional experience.

LANGUAGES: Native level skills in the writing, speaking and comprehension in Japanese language.

Excellent knowledge of English is required.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP Japan's mission is to raise awareness of WFP's work among the public and partners in Japan - one of the top-ranking and consistent donor countries. The WFP Japan Relations Office acts as a partnership hub, fostering strategic partnerships with Japanese institutions, liaising with the Government as well as the private sector, including the Japan Association for the WFP (JAWFP), a non-profit entity in support of WFP, and strengthening advocacy to key stakeholders to achieve zero hunger.

The role will report directly to the Communication, Advocacy, and Marketing (CAM) Officer, with a second level reporting line to the Japan Relations Office director (in the absence of the CAM Officer, the Director will directly supervise the consultant), and in close collaboration with the Communications, Advocacy & Marketing division at WFP HQ.

JOB PURPOSE

To support TOK's key missions and initiatives in the areas of communications, advocacy and marketing, as well as joint communications/fundraising activities with the Japan Association for WFP (JAWFP).

The consultant will work on the following tasks under the direct supervision of the CAM Officer and in close cooperation with the latter.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

The order of these responsibilities does not necessarily mean the fixed order in priority which should be flexibly weighed and adjusted based on the context, the needs and strategic directions of WFP Japan Relations Office.

  1. Maintain and develop media relations and organize media interviews, following up on requests for information from media, keeping accurate records of media coverage;
  2. Prepare press release and other communication material, correspondence and other; documentations to enhance WFP’s visibility and support from the general public towards WFP activities;
  3. Develop, manage, define the tone and generate content for the WFP Japan social media presence such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and possibly others;
  4. Support the maintenance of the WFP website and social media channels by creating compelling videos and social media assets;
  5. Collect, compile and produce donor visibility materials;
  6. Produce information and audio-visual materials, brochures and other documentation;
  7. Support the preparation of visibility initiatives, including public events and seminars;
  8. Support the preparation of briefing papers and talking points as required;
  9. Produce reports on WFP communications/fundraising activities as required; and
  10. Perform other related duties as required.

Incumbent is also expected to possess the following skills and abilities: stress resilience, time management, multi-tasking, effective communication skills, flexibility and team work.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration of contract is for 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
