Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a talented Intern to support two of our teams in the Programme, Policy & External Relations departments (PPE) at HQ in Copenhagen. The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Standby Roster (SBR) is part of the Humanitarian Strategic Surge Capacity team within PPE and assists UN agencies around the world with deployment of experts to fill capacity gaps in humanitarian operations. The term roster implies a list of carefully recruited and trained professionals, who are ready to be deployed at short notice. About the position

The internship will be split between CSEU and the Standby Roster. At CSEU the intern will be part of DEMAC’s project team and will assist the DEMAC coordination team on all communication aspects. At the Standby Roster the intern will assist on task related to deployment of experts (roster members) to specific UN missions in the field.

The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

Management of DEMAC communication platforms:

  • Support on implementing a digital communication plan and strategy to ensure the continuous engagement of diasporas organization and humanitarian agencies on DEMAC digital platform.
  • Support on planning, drafting, editing, and consequently promoting project events, research studies and reports and disseminating those to relevant target groups via DEMAC’s digital platforms, such as website and social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
  • Share relevant success stories about diaspora organization on DEMAC’s website and social media pages.
  • Develop and produce in-house creative campaigns and content in various formats, including writing copies and creating promotional material, such as infographics, videos, event invitations, etc. for social media in line with the Corporate Identity of DEMAC.
  • Plan, develop and distribute various newsletters on events, newly published reports, etc. by using mailchimp
  • Support with extracting key-messages from research reports and tailor the messages to relevant digital channels.

Support DEMAC coordination team on communication around conferences, workshops and events:

  • Prepare, post, and disseminate notices for events
  • Liaise with conference/workshop facility service providers
  • Support the organization of meetings and appointments; produce and distribute minutes of meetings.

Assist the Standby Roster team with the deployment of experts (roster members)

to specific UN missions in the field:

  • Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new roster members
  • Supporting financial tasks using excel and our internal ERP system ‘Dynamics’ to process deployees’ expenses, as well as checking original receipts and archiving
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks including booking flight tickets and support members with different inquiries
  • Registration of UN requests for deployments and trainings in our database ‘HERO’
  • Supporting the preparation and facilitation of the induction trainings of new roster members
  • Attend deployment briefings and debriefings before and after a member deployment
  • Writing and distributing our quarterly newsletter to all members
  • Updating our website information and work on social media appearance

Your qualifications

You are pursuing a graduate level degree in Media, Communication or Journalism, Development Studies, Political Science or other related social science studies. Experience and interest in the areas of humanitarian work, international communication, social media, digital communication is considered an asset.

To apply for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enlisted at a university for a relevant education at master’s level (this is a prerequisite for the internship).
  • Be effective in the use of Office 365.
  • Be versed in writing for online and social media channels.
  • Have experience in graphic design and video production for digital platforms.
  • Have a creative eye for visuals, images, videos which match humanitarian and developmental purposes.
  • Be able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Be able to work systematically with a good structure for the tasks that you are responsible for.
  • Have an eye for detail and strive to get the job done.
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Have the required permits to work and live in Denmark.
  • Have the ability to navigate in a challenging environment and handle a wide complexity of tasks.
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills.

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: around mid-January.

We can be flexible on the start date but prefer if you join no later than 20 February 2023 so that you can participate in our introduction programme for all new interns.

Working hours: Approximately 32 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our summer-party

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship.
