This position resides within the Brand and Creative Content section as part of the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy (DGCA) and directly reports to the Communication Specialist, Creative Production Studio Manager. The Multimedia team is responsible for high quality professional production and design of photography and video communications assets. These assets are featured across UNICEF’s global digital channels including unicef.org, global social media channels, external digital media outlets and traditional media channels, as well as in flagship publications. The unit is also responsible for providing normative guidance and technical advice to country offices, regional offices and national committees in the commissioning, production, and ethical use of multimedia content.

Purpose for the job:

GCS requires a video producer to manage the development, production, scripting, shooting, and editing of a series of video products for UNICEF’s Parenting Portal, and other online platforms in support of our Global Advocacy Priority on Mental Health and UNICEF’s global Communications and Advocacy Strategy. The position will contribute directly to the successful delivery of a global advocacy campaign for universal access to parenting support.

Production, planning and management of multimedia assets related to Parenting, Play and Mental Health.

Role Responsibility

The incumbent is responsible for generating, developing and producing creative content that is aligned with the relevant content strategies and advocacy priorities. The incumbent will be required to work closely with colleagues on the multimedia, content strategy, media, social media and advocacy teams across platforms and products.

The incumbent will be responsible for the creative production, planning and management of multimedia assets related to Parenting, Play and Mental Health and for articulating UNICEF’s communication, campaign and advocacy priorities in the creation and development of ideas that meet audiences’ needs. By providing creative leadership in the development of multimedia assets, the video producer is expected to encourage risk taking and innovation whilst maintaining high standards and demonstrating expertise in identifying trends and opportunities for outstanding content.

1. Drive the creation, conceptualization, filming and editing of professional quality multimedia assets.

  • Responsible for planning, conceptualizing, scripting, filming, and editing various video content pieces and series, including video diaries, Parenting Masterclasses, and explainer videos.
  • Develop ongoing creative conceptualizations and realization as the project progresses.

    1. Overall project management for agreed video deliverables, from start to finish. Responsible for the successful delivery of video content series committed to.
  • Develop, maintain, and actively communicate a project plan towards the on-time delivery of agreed content series and associated multimedia assets.

  • Consult with UNICEF stakeholders, communication and other specialists globally, with internal users of UNICEF content, including in HQ, regional, national and National Committee offices; and with external users, UN and other partners.
  • Implement decisions on content creation and usage based on content strategy considerations and coordination.

3. Plan, conceptualize and research agreed video content series for sharing, engaging and communicating with key constituent audiences across platforms.

  • Undertake all necessary action to produce highly engaging multimedia content in support of Parenting, Play and Mental Health for use on owned, earned, and paid media platforms in line with agreed content strategies and plans.
  • Produce digital video content to drive online advocacy and engagement on global and national channels, and for use by partners.
  • Write from scratch, rewrite, sub-edit and edit video content (including includes first person child cantered stories, features, captions, blurbs etc.) from a variety of sources, in keeping with web and social media styles as well as UNICEF editorial style.
  • Produce these packages into final, published content for multiple platforms.

4. Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and related visual media and/or academic agencies, channels, institutions and corporations.

  • Professionally articulate UNICEF’s communication, campaign and advocacy priorities in the creation and development of ideas that meet our audiences’ needs.
  • Use professional relationships to improve production and distribution channels.
  • Provide creative leadership in the development of multimedia assets.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

In partnership with LEGO, UNICEF and its key strategic partners, the focus on parenting programmes as a powerful method to disrupt and end adverse childhood experiences is part of an organization-wide four-year global advocacy priority on mental health and ending neglect and abuse running until 2025. This advocacy approach reflects insights from UNICEF’s exploration during the global advocacy prioritization process of what currently will gain traction with the target audiences at the global, regional, and national levels.

The incumbent will be responsible for the production of powerful stories of children and parents, supported by data and evidence and a creative production approach. Content will be targeted for public engagement to reach parents, influencers, and decision-makers with the purpose of shifting the global conversation on the impact of parenting and play on adverse childhood experiences, and ultimately it will support the demand for systems change.

The incumbent’s development of an agile content strategy and productions will support the agreed objectives for targeted public engagement.

A variety of communication and media products will engage parents and provide support and advice such as Parenting Masterclass, in house video productions, GWA (Goodwill Ambassador) support, among other relevant digital content in support of promoting playful parenting and preventing abuse and neglect as driven by GAP 3 advocacy priorities.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • Advanced university degree in communication, multimedia production, journalism, public relations, or other related discipline field; or
  • A first-level university degree plus an additional 2 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional video and audio editing experience. High level of proficiency and established track-record producing, editing, shooting and creating motion graphics for videos intended for social media platforms required.
  • The role requires a strong creative background and proven ability to engage in the production, planning and management of multimedia assets related to campaigns and social media activations.
  • A proven ability to articulate communication, campaign and advocacy priorities in the creation and development of ideas that meet audiences’ needs.
  • High level of expertise using professional cameras, lighting and sound equipment in field and studio settings.
  • Skilled in motion graphics design and animation, 2D/3D motion graphics – After Effects, HTML5, Flash (animation, composition, VFX, title sequencing a plus).
  • Extensive skills using professional editing equipment such as Premiere. Strong knowledge of audio recording hardware and software such as Pro Tools.
  • Advanced graphic design and typography skills coupled with the ability to incorporate into a meaningful and compelling story.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, collaborative, and able to create in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work effectively with small crews in pursuit of creative excellence.
  • Remain current on industry trends and styles, able to integrate new technique and/or technology when appropriate.
  • Solid experience with post-production workflows, media formats, and optimizing video for various outputs.
  • Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment in a cooperative and professional manner, including observance of UNICEF’s product clearance procedures.
  • Ability to edit materials from a culturally sensitive perspective.
  • Keen knowledge of storytelling and understanding diverse audiences and approaches to reaching them.
  • Artistic vision with a can-do attitude and the skills to back it up.

  • Knowledge of international development issues.

Language Requirements:
