Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Under UNICEF’s mandate to promote the rights and well-being of every child, communication plays a critical role in raising awareness, mobilizing support, and driving positive change. High-quality, compelling multimedia content is essential to showcase the situation of children and young people in Afghanistan, highlight UNICEF’s efforts to improve their lives, and inspire action.

Donors and partners provide vital support that enables UNICEF Afghanistan to deliver results for children. Ensuring their contributions are meaningfully recognized is a key priority. The Communication and Advocacy section leads the production of strategic visibility materials—including human interest stories, photographs, videos, infographics, branded materials, and donor recognition reports—that acknowledge donor support and amplify the impact of their investments.

To support these efforts, UNICEF Afghanistan is seeking a UN Volunteer to join the Communication and Advocacy team. The UNV will contribute to the planning, production, and dissemination of donor visibility content, working closely with programme sections and the Resource Mobilization team to ensure that visibility deliverables are timely, high-quality, and aligned with donor expectations. The role will focus on documenting results, profiling partners, and enhancing UNICEF’s ability to communicate its impact to donors and the public.

  • Support the development and implementation of a donor recognition plan to ensure a strategic and coordinated approach to donor visibility across the Country Office. This includes regular field travel to UNICEF field offices and outposts, and close collaboration with field staff.

  • Assist in the planning and production of donor visibility content per grant, in alignment with grant agreements and values. Participate in field missions to collect content and assess the implementation of donor visibility activities on the ground.

  • Monitor donor visibility efforts and performance and support the identification of areas for improvement to ensure quality, strategic prioritization (e.g., major donors), and alignment with office-wide communication priorities.

  • Facilitate internal communication on donor recognition, working with programme sections to ensure awareness of and compliance with donor visibility requirements. Track follow-up on allocation emails and contribute to internal coordination platforms such as programme and management meetings.

  • Support the maintenance of donor recognition tools and systems, including updated records of donor social media handles, logos, and branding assets.

  • Contribute to broader communication activities as needed, including support to field missions, production of talking points, and drafting of press releases or other external content.

• Accountability • Adaptability and flexibility • Creativity • Judgement and decision-making • Planning and organising • Professionalism • Self-management

Due to the prevailing security situation, international staff are required to live within a secured compound, with movement restrictions in place to ensure safety. This setting demands a high level of adaptability, resilience, and cultural awareness. Living and working in a confined environment with limited personal freedoms requires patience, teamwork, and the ability to maintain morale in challenging circumstances.
