We are seeking to hire a suitably qualified candidate to lead in developing content for different digital media channels, the new UNICEF Innocenti website, and the design and monitoring of performance of digital communication campaigns, including online media plans for promotions, and managing partnerships, and exploration of the implications of artificial intelligence for communications.

Organizational context:

UNICEF Innocenti is the dedicated global office for research and foresight in UNICEF.

• UNICEF Innocenti undertakes and commissions research on emerging or current issues of relevance for children and child rights. The office links research and global trends analyses to influence policies, programming, and advocacy, as well as innovations, and to drive future strategies and vision of the organization and the child rights agenda more broadly amongst governments, private sector, and other institutions. • UNICEF Innocenti uses foresight to set the agenda for children uncovering emerging trends and deepening understanding of key issues facing girls and boys and serving as a go-to office for advising UNICEF and a diversity of actors, including governments, the United Nations, private sector, civil society and children and young people themselves in the face of the continually changing global economy, political and security environment. • UNICEF Innocenti also strives to lead global discourse by creating an enabling environment and platform for children and young people along with global influencers and decision-makers to transform their contributions into future strategies, policies and actions of UNICEF and the world. Thereby positioning children and UNICEF at the centre of the global conversation through prominent external engagement, communication, and influence.

Purpose for the job:

• Facilitate planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of UNICEF Innocenti’s digital communication strategy with a focus on website development and maintenance, social media, artificial intelligence, and campaign implementation in coordination with partners. • The incumbent will generate, manage and support the sourcing, designing, production, sharing and archiving of high-quality digital, artificial intelligence and print media assets developed as part of UNICEF Innocenti’s Communication Strategy. • The incumbent will facilitate the rollout of the digital communication dissemination strategy, including the specific digital media needs of the Director’s Office; development and maintenance of UNICEF website and social media channels; development, and maintenance of the digital website and media platforms in accordance with an innovative, clear, inclusive, and interactive approach respectful of gender and child rights. • Additionally, the incumbent will also supervise the digital communication focal points of the Research and Foresight teams that are supported from the research and foresight project budgets, providing quality assurance and efficiency gains • Additionally, the incumbent will be tasked with creating partnerships, organising special events and launches and mobilizing online and offline influencers on key priorities for strategic advocacy and visibility for child rights issues, etc. • The incumbent also will be required to support maintaining digital media relations by developing, drafting, and maintaining contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets covering all media – print, TV, radio, digital/web, etc., to facilitate and communicate UNICEF Innocenti’s work to a wider audience globally. • The incumbent will be required to provide strategic thinking and build on market intelligence to create content for UNICEF digital platforms, including all digital and online components. • Finally, the incumbent will be assigned to explore the communications implications of generative artificial intelligence, and the potential and risks for UNICEF Innocenti’s work.

Key functions, accountabilities, and related duties/tasks:

Under guidance of the Chief, Strategic Planning, Communication and Convening, the Digital Communication Specialist, will lead on the implementation of UNICEF Innocenti’s digital communication and associated workplan aimed at getting research and foresight work done on children’s issues into the public domain and therefore enhancing UNICEF Innocenti’s credibility and brand value.

Duties and Tasks: • Develop, maintain, and update the digital communication strategy and associated work plan for UNICEF Innocenti in conjunction with others within the office. • Ensure that the production of digital communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up to support the overall communication strategy. • Coordinate and work cross-sectorally to launch major reports, campaigns and manage events effectively online and in social media. • Manage and lead on digital content production across all of UNICEF Innocenti’s social media platforms and website. Identify opportunities for content amplification on global channels and share insights and learnings. • Produce creative digital advocacy and communication materials (e.g., infographs, images, videos, podcasts) etc. Facebook posts, tweets, photo galleries, social media packages, etc.) for digital platforms, printing and other purposes that meet UNICEF standards. • Ensure the website is updated and reflects UNICEF Innocenti’s work. • Establish or maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for digital communication materials including publications photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources and share images selectively, in consultation with the supervisor, with external media, partners, other UNICEF offices, etc. • Recommend appropriate information and communication materials for use on social media platforms and suggest established contacts, networks, resources, and processes to support online communication activities. • Monitor the public perception of UNICEF Innocenti on digital platforms and recommend appropriate actions to maintain a positive image and support to the issues it promotes. For this the use of social media analytic/listening tools will be required. • Monitor results of social media advocacy campaigns and produce monthly analytics reports. Provide analytics reports and provide recommendations on tactics to improve UNICEF Innocenti's digital presence. • Undertake lessons learned review of successful and unsuccessful communication experiences as directed by supervisor. • Review best practices in using communication platforms to engage younger segments of the population and explore the implications of artificial intelligence in digital communications. • Keep track of activities of other UN agencies, development partners, and non-profit partners, identifying content for amplification. • Identify, develop, manage, and cultivate partnerships with mainstream media, and online influencers on key priorities for strategic advocacy and visibility for child rights issues and provide them with key advocacy materials and guidance. • Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials in all media formats, as appropriate. • Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefing and visits of media and other special interest groups and assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
