UNICEF’s Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) has ambitious goals to deliver on income and influence. Compelling, authentic content is an important driver in donor engagement journeys among private sector fundraising channels including corporates, foundations, philanthropy, faith, and membership based and other channels.

Compelling content can show the impact that we are making together with our donors and partners for children both in emergency and non-emergency contexts. Content and authentic storytelling about UNICEF programmes and its unique role also allows potential donors to see new ways to envision their support by bringing them closer to the complexities of a situation, the human stories, and the unique ways in which UNICEF works to improve the lives of children.

UNICEF PFP’s Supporter Content Team seeks the expertise of a strategic, experienced, versatile, content producer who can devise and implement content strategies to support growth and recognition among its global high value audiences. The role will also plan, produce, direct, write scripts, write copy, and manage content creation with talent in-house or with agencies for these audiences. In addition, the role will support in providing normative guidance relating to imagery and content relating to High Value audience content.

The role forms part of UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) and aims to strengthen UNICEF’s position in a competitive fundraising environment by bringing donors closer to our work for children, helping to develop new and existing partnerships, and ultimately drive increases in income and influence.

The Communication Specialist (Content) will work in close coordination and in collaboration with the communications for partnerships team in the Marketing and PR services section and other PFP stakeholders, and will work across UNICEF’s high-value channels, liaising with various business units and partake in relevant initiatives at PFP.

The Communication Specialist (Content) will lead on content projects devising and implementing content strategies, support in providing guidance on imagery and content in this space, should be able to produce, direct multimedia shoots, write concept notes, briefs, scripts, human interest stories and other copy as part of efforts to engage high-value donors and partners – new and existing.

How can you make a difference?

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Reporting to the Communications Manager of the Supporter Content team and working closely with stakeholders including the PFP’s Communications 4 Partnerships (C4P) Team, the Virtual Donor Experiences Team, the Purpose Marketing Team, and other units within PFP, the Communication Specialist (Content) will be required to undertake the following tasks:

1. High-value content strategy development

  • Together with the relevant stakeholders such as C4P develop stewardship content strategies for PFP’s global high value donors and PFP high value initiatives/projects.

2. Planning, scripting and production of high value content

  • Develop a production plan and briefs including relevant assets to be created.
  • Working with internal and/or external creatives to produce content.
  • Manage feedback and approval processes of assets.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-purpose usages.

3. Package and disseminate assets

  • Draft a dissemination plan for the assets.
  • Package the assets for dissemination to all relevant channels on WeShare.
  • Obtain relevant feedback and data on usage.

4. Advisory services and technical support

  • Provide technical support on content and imagery guidance and development.
  • Participate in strategic discussions and contribute as needed.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Marketing, Communications, the humanities, journalism, broadcast, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two years of additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • Any other additional training in a related field is an asset.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a content creator/producer with a broad portfolio in multimedia asset creation (photo, video, text) is required.
  • Experience in broadcast scriptwriting /copywriting is required.
  • Experience in working with creative teams or agencies and a sound understanding of the creative process is an asset.
  • Experience in the NGO sector/ for UNICEF and/or UN is an asset.
  • Experience in developing content /communications strategies is desired.
  • Experience in project management is desired.
  • Experience with UN/UNICEF will be an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Remarks:

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the successful candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely, and they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to the final post-duty station/location in Berlin.
