Result of Service Under the supervision of the Partnerships & Strategic Communications Lead (Associate Public Information Officer) the Individual Contractor will be responsible to deliver in the following areas:

a) Support the overall social media strategy and various campaigns, including graphic design support b) Contribute to core communication efforts through good research, well-written copy and timely preparation and distribution of content to target audiences c) Align content with the OSGEY and Youth2030 brand guidelines to convey a strong and consistent brand, successfully positioning OSGEY for the forthcoming transition to the UN Youth Office d) Share social media content with key partners within the UN system and externally e) Effectively and promptly liaise and interact with colleagues and relevant parties internally and externally; collaborate closely with OSGEY staff on programmatic messaging and campaigns

Duties and Responsibilities Purpose & Objectives:

This position will support the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth’s communications efforts. It will include three main areas of work:

(1) Social media content creation, execution, monitoring and reporting. OSGEY is recruiting an Individual Contractor to support with the population of all OSGEY social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube. This will involve providing diverse content tailored to the needs of each communications channel, working with partners to localize global campaigns and vice versa. A core component of this work will involve supporting with graphic design processes, and the creation of relevant assets for various communications channels. The Individual Contractor will also be responsible for supporting the development of analytics reports that measure reach and engagement across social media channels, with a view to adapt social media plans based on monthly reports to increase performance.

(2) Digital communications innovation. The Individual Contractor will be responsible for creating a diverse range of digital assets and templates primarily for social media, email and website. By proposing and implementing new and innovative communications approaches, these efforts should contribute to strengthening how the Office communicates on the UN’s work with and for youth, including in the context of Youth2030 (the UN’s system-wide strategy on youth). The Individual Contractor will also coordinate with external and internal partners, including other UN social media and communications focal points, in the sharing of such digital assets and toolkits. The Individual Contractor will further be responsible for supporting the routine maintenance of OSGEY’s website, working in close coordination with colleagues from OICT and Web Services.

(3) Project management and overall communications planning. OSGEY is recruiting an Individual Contractor to support with the overall planning and execution of communications campaigns and advocacy efforts in 2023, with a specific focus on the successful and smooth transition of OSGEY’s communications activities into the new UN Youth Office. In addition to the routine communications support described above, this includes general communications support for: the relaunch of the Not Too Young To Run campaign and support for the ongoing Be Seen Be Heard campaign, activations for key International Days relevant to youth (including World Youth Skills Day, International Youth Day, etc.), the ECOSOC Youth Forum and SDG Summit Youth Forum, among other major events and campaign launches. The Individual Contractor will also support with the routine logistical management of the Young Leaders for the SDGs initiative, including support for the organization of the forthcoming in-person retreat in April 2023.

Qualifications/special skills - University degree in communications, media, social sciences, or any related field is required. - a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, evaluation or related area, including at the international level is required. - Previous experience drafting and scheduling posts for major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Weibo and YouTube is required - Working knowledge of design programmes (eg. Adobe Photoshop, Canva, etc.) to create digital cards, gifs, icons, logos, charts, publications is required. - Previous experience developing communications performance reports on social media, media, website and overall communications impact is desirable. - Previous experience in creating, implementing and supporting youth-focused advocacy campaigns or communications programmes is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English (both written and oral) is required for this consultancy.
