Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 35 years old, unless specified otherwise below. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of ERRY Project Manager and the UNDP Communication Team Leader, the Communication Specialist will undertake the following tasks: Social Media  Assist in the implementation of the project communications Strategy with focus on the social media tools.  Prepare and implement social media campaigns in consultations and guidance with UNDP communication team and communication specialist of joint coordination unit. This includes content preparation and dissemination as well as media outreach.  Generate posts/tweets sheets on a daily basis to ensure frequent updates for ERRYJP1, UNDP Yemen Facebook page and Twitter accounts.  Follow-up with the ERRY project technical specialists on the most recent and cleared updates from the field and use them for social media and website updates in quarterly basis after the clearance from the communication team of UNDP and JCU. General Communication  Contribute to start and scale up an interactive communication-model that gives ERRY, SIDA and Famine response beneficiaries a voice.  Plan, draft and prepare press releases, success stories and articles in consultation with the project team members and implementing partners. Media Monitoring  Generate/translate media products project activities and events.

Visual Communication  Demonstrate good skills in video-editing to respond to urgent and ad-hoc changes in videos products. Ensure content updates to UNDP Yemen YouTube Channel.  Demonstrate good capacity in designing infographics and information visual content for social media, website and publications.  Demonstrate good skills in photography and photo-editing skills to keep project products and webpages fresh.  Maintain project photo database, in CO SharePoint, using a systematic approach while ensuring the accessibility and diversity of project photos.  Translate between English and Arabic for an ad-hoc small-scale publications (including social media clippings) and meetings  Conduct capacity building of IPs in terms of ensuring proper visibility and products such as photo, videos etc.  Regular updates on communication plan and implementation of activities.  Communication risks log update on quarterly basis for all projects. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:  Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);  Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;  Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.  Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;  Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;  Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. Communication, Jounalism, International Relations or area related to the Communication.

Experience remark:

7 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in story writing, photo editing, social media marketing and website or other relevant programmes; working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;  Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, stories skills;  Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;  Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;  Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;  Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;  Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;  Sound security awareness;  Have affinity with or interest in Communication at UNDP, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
