Background Information - Job-specific

In May 2015, the DFS Supply Chain Management (SCM) Vision and Strategy was formally approved by the USG DFS. In January of 2019, post management reform, the newly formed Department of Operational Support (DOS) established the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) with a vision to provide efficient, agile, responsive, and accountable end to end uniformed capabilities and supply chain solutions to its global clients and partners.

The Office of Supply Chain Management covers a wide scope of services including supply chain planning and performance management, logistical support, procurement, vendor management and supplier diversity, aviation safety, and uniformed capabilities support. OSCM’s mission is to support its clients and partners globally to fulfil their mandates by providing the goods and services they need, when they need them, where they need them and at the best prices. OSCM is committed to enable successful implementation of mandates given to all Secretariat entities by anticipating customer demand, providing strategic services, and organizing for goods and services to be delivered in a timely manner.

Functional Responsibilities

1. Communication

  • Respond to inquiries related to communication activities in the designated office.
  • Provide support in the writing and editing of campaign assets including articles, talking points, web copy, emails and video scripts.
  • Provide support in the in the identification of creative ideas that will deliver on the department’s business goals.
  • Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies, including the curation and moderation of knowledge platforms, communities of practice, wikis, etc.
  • Support the production of promotional material in line with the visibility guidelines
  • Coordinate inputs from different units, donors and partners and produce consolidated reports, presentations and other written documents for internal and external use.
  • Support the development and facilitation of in-house communication training.
  • Support the organisation and promotion of communication and visibility events, in coordination with internal and external partners
  • Contribute to the elaboration of periodic internal newsletters.

  • Develop and maintain web content

2. Reporting and Knowledge Management

  • Prepare communication materials as required for events, mission travel and/or discussion with partners.
  • Share publication, information and knowledge with colleagues, clients and partners.
  • Produce and keep up-to-date communication materials and a photo library with project photos.
  • Contribute to communication outputs to share information and in liaison with relevant project and communication teams.

Expected Results:

  • Effective and timely contribution to communication outputs
  • Timely completion of all communication materials as requested

3. Media Relations

  • Supports media relations and the collection of information in response to media requests.
  • Support the production of information materials and the publication of articles to be published in relevant media.
  • Develop and maintain a database of local journalists / press contacts.

  • Production of quality materials for publication
  • A well managed database of local useful contacts
  • Strategic support to management

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education**

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, Technical/Professional Diploma or License, or Master Degree or equivalent preferrably in Business Management, Management, Communication , Journalism and Media Relations or a relevant area to the post description is desirable.

Candidates with these supplementary academic qualifications may be considered with a reduced experience requirement as follows:Technical/Professional Diploma (5 years required); Bachelor's Degree (3 years required); Technical/Professional License (2 years required), Master's Degree (1 year required).

Experience Required work experience - A minimum of 7 years progressive experience in the communications and/or media relations is required.

Desirable experience (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply) - Strong Microsoft Office suite skills are desirable in particular PowerPoint, Word and Excel - Experience with SharePoint and the use of design software is an asset. - Experience working with Adobe CC (mainly llustrator, indesign, photoshop) is highly desirable. - Experience in International Organizations/UN is an asset

Language - Fluency in English ( write, read, speak) is required. Working knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset
