Situated within the Division Global Communications and Advocacy (DGCA), the Global Content Strategy (GCS) section develops content strategies aligned with the production of flagship publications, photography and videos for key initiatives and priority campaigns. GCS manages the quality and consistency of communication content as a strategic asset across UNICEF digital platforms and provides guidance in the development of efficient and effective communication content across the organization.

The section’s expertise encompasses strategic content planning, video production, photography commissions, writing, editing, fact-checking, proofreading, translation and graphic design, all contributing to UNICEF’s communication and advocacy agenda in support of child rights.

This position resides within the Global Content Strategy section as part of DGCA and directly reports to the Creative Studio Production Manager. The Multimedia team is responsible for high quality professional production and distribution of photo and video communications assets. These assets are featured in flagship publications, on all global digital channels for UNICEF including unicef.org in 5 UN languages, global social media channels, external digital channels and traditional media outlets. The section also provides normative guidance and technical advice to country offices, regional offices and national committees as relates to multimedia ethical representation of children, brand, production, distribution, storytelling and archiving standards.

Purpose for the job:

GCS section of DGCA requires a Video Editor/Creative Studio Technician to provide technical support for operating in a multimedia studio environment as well as video production work such as recording and editing content for UNICEF social media platforms.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Under the overall direction of the Content Strategy Head of Multimedia, and reporting to the Creative Studio Production Manager the Video Editor/Creative Studio Technician will accomplish the following objectives:

1. Video Editing:

  • Edit video materials as needed for campaigns, communications and advocacy objectives
  • Keep abreast of trends for editing content for social media platforms
  • Undertake all aspects of video post-production, including captioning, outputting final deliverables, managing media for Premiere,
  • After FX, and related technologies
  • Sound mix
  • Digitally transcode media
  • Help manage media programs and related software

2. Archive media

  • Apply video graphics as required by social media platform trends
  • Prepare basics for post-production
  • Edit content as assigned for Office of Executive Director
  • Output final products as specified by various platforms: WeShare (DAM), YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

3. Creative Studio technical support

  • Assist in the coordination with Studio Manager to maintain broadcast studio for video shoots and live events
  • Support professional studio lighting and setups
  • Help manage teleprompter and related technologies
  • Manage Facebook Live studio set ups and uploads
  • Troubleshoot technical problems
  • May be required to travel and/or work on weekends
  • Ingest footage and QC footage as needed
  • Assist in managing stock footage requirements and vendor relations

4. Equipment Management:

  • Maintain inventory and check-out systems for production equipment
  • Send malfunctioning equipment out for repair, advise on new equipment as required
  • Support off site shoots with gear and set ups

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • A First level university degree is required in the fields of communication, filmmaking, marketing, journalism or similar, with a minimum of 2 years professional experience.

Experience:

Two years practical professional work experience in the following combined areas:

  • Technical knowhow and skills in studio lighting, recording and sound
  • Proven skills operating video production and editing equipment
  • Artistic vision with a can-do attitude and the skills to back it up
  • Drive to be self-motivated, highly organized, collaborative, and able to create in a fast-paced and growing environment
  • Work effectively with minimal crew in pursuit of creative excellence
  • Proficiency in Mac platforms
  • Solid experience with post-production workflows, media formats, and optimizing video for various outputs
  • Experience with audio visual requirement for meetings, events and exhibitions
  • Experienced with FB live sets ups and use of WIRECATS software
  • Solid knowledge of cameras, lighting and other video production equipment
  • Ability to operate latest video production, archiving, and editing equipment
  • Strong knowledge of cameras, lighting and other video production equipment
  • Remain current on industry trends and styles, able to integrate new technique and/or technology when appropriate
  • Proven track record editing for social media platforms
  • Keen knowledge of storytelling and understanding of diverse audiences and approaches to reaching them
  • Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment in a cooperative and professional manner, including observance of UNICEF product clearance procedures
  • Professional work ethic, integrity, and initiative
  • Knowledge of international development issues
  • Exceptional communication skills, tact, and diplomacy Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
