Our programmes focus on improving the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality, gender, religion or background. Our main pillars include: Child Protection; Education; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Adolescent and Youth Engagement; Health and Nutrition; Social Protection; and Operations.

How can you make a difference?

The Social Media Officer is responsible for implementing the communication strategy, with a special focus on social media platforms. This includes planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting on communication initiatives on the different platforms. The social media officer will also generate content, while adhering to UNICEF guidelines and in alignment with UNICEF country office priorities, plans, and unfolding events. The officer will guide the Chief of Section on key trends in social media and will produce monthly analytics report showing trends across UNICEF social media platforms. Specific tasks are highlighted below:

Supporters’ engagement planning

Effective planning to ensure that UNICEF Jordan social media channels engage with a wider audience, especially the most vulnerable children and young people:

  • Based on the section rolling workplan, global & country office priorities, and calendar of events, develop a monthly social media plan that aims to engage audience, and amplifies the voices of children and young people.
  • Manage the collection of assets for pushing on the various social media platforms
  • Upload quality content onto the various social media platforms on a daily basis as per agreed upon monthly plans, calendar of events, office priorities and unfolding events.
  • Timely engagement with supporters by addressing comments, questions and answers and develop a standardised Q&A that is reviewed and approved by the Chief, which should be updated on a regular basis.
  • Alert Chief of Section of any potential offensive comments and address them in line with UNICEF guidelines.
  • Identify key social media influencers, conduct a quick risk analysis, and engage with them to advance reach and engagement of UNICEF social media platforms.
  • In cooperation with relevant team members, create and stimulate engaging discussions with supporters to enhance engagement with stakeholders and advance UNICEF’s communication strategy in the country.

Content generation

Develop compelling content that is aligned to the ‘North Star Metrics’ and speaks to the issues that impact children and young people in the country while ensuring the north star metrics:

  • Based on the sections’ rolling workplan, global and country office priorities and events, and the social media plan, collect content from the field and finalize assets that ensure the north star metrics.
  • Conduct field visits to amplify the voices of children and young people on social media platforms.
  • Develop compelling content for use across the social media platforms, while ensuring adherence to UNICEF guidelines, including ethical reporting on children.
  • In coordination with the partnership / resource mobilization team, ensure donor recognition on all assets produced (where relevant).
  • Recognise all relevant partners across all assets produced.
  • Cooperate with LTA holders to producing compelling content that further engages young people.

Brand management

Regular monitoring of UNICEF brand on social media to sustain the brand and image of UNICEF in the country:

  • Monitor public perception of UNICEF on digital platforms
  • Alert Chief of Section of any potential risks or trends on a regular basis.
  • Develop a standardized agreed upon Q&A for speedy responses to audiences.
  • Develop a list of all partners social media handles as well as that of donors, and ensure appropriate use.

Monitoring and Reporting

Regularly monitor social media platforms and develop timely and quality analytics reports to further guide country office engagement with stakeholders:

  • Regular monitoring of all UNICEF social media platforms and provide monthly analytics reports based on key performance indicators, reflecting UNICEF reach and engagement to ensure reaching end year targets.
  • Monitor campaigns on social media platforms and provide campaign’s analytics reports to further guide our engagement strategy.
  • Report on social media trending issues in the country, while keeping Chief of Section abreast of unfolding issues/events.
  • Regularly test new initiatives that will further advance UNICEF social media engagement that are aligned to UNICEF guidelines.
  • Submit a monthly analytics report on social media, and trends reports on viral campaigns with management, programmes and specified partners.

  • Generate monthly donor recognition reports and share with the respective sections and resource mobilization team.

  • Contribute to country office reports, including situation reports, mid-year and end year reviews, annual reports etc.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media or other relevant discipline(s).

Experience: Two years practical professional work experience handling social media channels and listening/social media analytic tools, good communication and presentation skills, ability to develop assets (written and visual) and to deliver within tight deadlines.

Language requirement: Fluency in English and Arabic.
