For every child, an advocate

According to the results of UNICEF's perception studies and programmatic needs, it is considered necessary to maintain the credibility and reputation of the Organization, through a public, bilateral advocacy and specific communication strategies for development. The communication strategy of UNICEF Ecuador integrates fundraising to strengthen UNICEF's voice and ensure that more people engage with children and adolescents. One of the objectives is to position UNICEF as the leading voice of children and adolescents in Ecuador. As well as keeping UNICEF as the organization with the greatest confidence in the country and involving more people in the cause of childhood. The work of a digital assistant allows the promotion of digital channels and the new website of UNICEF Ecuador, as a source of information and knowledge for citizens, journalists and decision makers, also allows generating content for each specific audience and segmenting according to age , gender, interests, location, etc.

How can you make a difference?

1. Communication materials: Ensure that the production of communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up to support country communication strategy, regional and global campaigns and priorities and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan.

2. Media relations: Effective and timely professional assistance and support are provided in developing, drafting and maintaining contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets covering all media – print, TV, radio, web etc. – in the country, to communicate the story of UNICEF's cooperation to a wider audience.

3. Monitoring and evaluation: Regular monitoring and evaluation activities are undertaken according to the work plan to ensure maximum impact and continuous improvement of country communication efforts. Ensure results and reports are prepared and shared on a timely basis.

4. Celebrities, partners and special events: Ensure that the Country Office’s contact list of individuals, groups, organizations and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), are maintained and further developed, whose support is essential to/can assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives and who support and are able to actively participate in special events and activities that further the country programme goals.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education : University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field. A related Masters degree would be considered as an asset.
  • Work Experience : One year practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media. International and national work experience (for IP). Field work experience (for NO) Background/familiarity with Emergency situations. Previous experience in UNICEF is an asset. Prior experience in journalism and advocacy for the children cause is an asset.
  • Language Proficiency : Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
