Note: "****Ideally, this position will be based in New York****. However, the position has the option for a fully remote work modality. This will be determined based on the preferred candidate's location and availability to relocate as well as some minimum overlap with the Eastern Standard Time. In the event that a remote work modality is selected, no installation to the duty station will be applicable and relevant entitlements will be adjusted based on lower of the two costs between the remote work location and the duty station."

The Immunization Section is part of the Health Programme in UNICEF’s Programme Group. The Immunization Section consists of six teams: (i) Strategy & Management, (ii) Social & Behaviour Change, (iii) Immunization Financing, (iv) Accelerated Immunization Initiatives, (v) Coverage & Equity and (vi) Supply Chain.

This position will contribute to the implementation of Immunization Section’s strategic vision to bring UNICEF’s immunization work into the public domain using digital and social media products and outlets and, thereby, contribute to UNICEF’s enhanced credibility and brand.

Under the supervision of Associate Director-Immunization (with dotted reporting line to Advocacy & Communication Specialist-PG), the incumbent will assist in planning and implementing digital and social media activities to get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand.

How can you make a difference?

Creating digital and social media content

  • Ensure digital and social media communication products and materials produced are compelling, relevant and catchy.
  • Develop compelling short videos, social tiles, infographics and interactive contents for social and digital media use in relevant formats.
  • Conduct periodic desk reviews in order to maintain a well curated and up-to-date bank of photos (sourced from existing UNICEF WeShare).
  • Stay up to date in terms of what key immunization online influencers are posting in terms of latest imagery, iconography and infographics (sourced/inspired from external and internal sources) for real-time use and adaptation on social and digital media platforms.
  • Coordinate with relevant units and Country Offices to write human interest stories, web stories and other website content proactively and in timely manner,
  • Support creation of posts for all relevant UNICEF digital and social media platforms.
  • Contribute to content for Health SharePoint, yammer posts, contribute to newsletters and thematic webpages that meet global standards.

Manage and develop social media assets

  • Conduct external and internal environment mapping to determine most relevant social media platforms for UNICEF immunization presence.
  • Create, maintain and scale up UNICEF Immunization presence in a range of social media platforms, as per guided analysis.
  • Monitor digital and social media interactions and their impact.
  • Use social media marketing utilities to scale the reach and impact of the social and digital media outlets.
  • Provide advice on mid-course corrections, as needed.

Leveraging synergies with online influencers, partners and special events

  • Maintain and update database of social media handles of key online influencers, partners and stakeholders. Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to key stakeholders via social media and digital platforms including yammer.
  • Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials in all media formats, as appropriate.
  • Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefing and visits of media and other special interest groups. Assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
  • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of digital and social media materials. Maintain a library of latest photos (sourced from existing UNICEF WeShare), immunization imagery, iconography and infographics (sourced/inspired from external and internal sources) for real time use.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
  • Monitor/document process and effectiveness of working with these individuals/organizations. Influencer mapping/SWOT analysis, etc.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital marketing, Social Media, Public relations or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years proven work experience in a related marketing communications role/Digital Marketing role, e.g., in creating and managing social media campaigns (both paid and organic) using social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook) and scheduling platforms is required.
  • Professional work experience in creating and contributing to social media strategy is an asset.
  • International and national work experience (for IP) an asset.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Prior experience with managing web platforms and social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Demonstrated experience with online analytic tools and performance dashboards (Google Analytics, etc.).
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French or Spanish) is an asset.
