This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Social Policy Officer (NO-B) of the UNICEF Banda Aceh Field Office, and with the support of the Chief Field Office, the UNV Communication Officer will:

  • Support communications (especially communication for development), advocacy and partnerships for the Aceh integrated maternal and child malnutrition programme;
  • Assist in creating and monitoring digital media content on issues related to malnutrition in Aceh and beyond;
  • Support government, partner and media engagement, including through the drafting of press releases and briefs, and strengthening knowledge and information exchange;
  • Assist in the production of multimedia communication materials for UNICEF internal and external audiences including human interest stories, photographs, press releases, and newsletters;
  • Document and consolidate lessons learned, best practices, case studies, case stories, testimonials in written, picture, and video form of the learning journey together.
  • Support the office in promoting key advocacy priorities to address current challenges (i.e. COVID-19, SDGs implementation, etc).

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political/social science, public administration/policy, development, public health, child development, or a related field.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in the fields of communication, media and media engagement (including social media), community/youth activism/engagement, web-design, or other relevant programmes; experience with social/public policy, journalism, nutrition, public health, child development/protection/wellbeing, development or a related field, is a strong asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Have affinity with or interest in children and youth development, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

  • Indonesian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Knowledge management, archiving and documentation, Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Other communications related experience

  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Desirable: valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4x4 over rough terrain; (if not applicable, delete)
