Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Communications Officer.

About the job

The Danish Refugee Council initiated its activities in the island of Lesvos in November 2015 due to the unprecedented influx of asylum seekers. Following new political developments and displacement

dynamics in early 2016, DRC expanded its activities to the mainland to support the people living in several sites across the country. With offices in Athens, Larissa and Thessaloniki, it currently

implements a wide range of activities, including legal assistance, protection of highly vulnerable persons, non-formal education for children and integration courses for adults. DRC works closely with the refugee communities, authorities, and humanitarian actors to ensure a protective environment for refugees and asylum seekers in Greece.

Under supervision of the Advocacy and Communications Advisor (ACA), and in close coordination with DRC field units, beneficiaries and other relevant actors, the Communications Officer will support the implementation of DRC’s advocacy and communication objectives and activities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and distribute content, including publications, press releases, images and videos for website, social media, advocacy materials website content, annual reports, talking points and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services.
  • Work closely with DRC HQ/ Regional communicators on communications initiatives and messaging.
  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and maintain a media database.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required.
  • Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
  • Maintain a calendar of assigned projects and deadlines.
  • Assist with the management of the communications department budget, contracts and relationships with vendors and partners as needed.
  • Educate staff members on communication processes.
  • Create and launch targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Assist with the management of conflict as it arises and escalate to management.
  • Undertake field visits and support advocacy and communications activities as needed.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to :

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years' relevant experience in a communications role.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop publishing software (InDesign/Photoshop/Spark).
  • Proficiency in verbal, written, and interpersonal Greek and English. Knowledge of Arabic/ Farsi/ French will be an added value.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and a strong team working capacity
