Overview

Manage internal communication and produce content for staff.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, social science, political science, humanities or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience in communication, intranet/web publishing and/or design.
  • Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English.
  • Limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of either French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.

Organizational Setting The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through FAO’s Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for both external and internal communications of the Organization. It aims at making FAO’s communications strategic, coherent, focused and impactful, while ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in communication-related operations.

The post is located in the Office of Communications and based at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Reporting Lines The Communication Officer reports to the Senior Communication Officer, responsible for internal communication.

Technical Focus Internal Communication, writing, editing, graphic design, video filming and production for intranet, and internal channel coordination.

Key Results The provision of internal communication content.

Key Functions • Processes and coordinates arrangements and delivers services; • Researches and analyses communication policy and service delivery issues, maintains operational statistics and prepares related reports; • Contributes to the development of information and training materials and coordinates and assists in the presentation of information/training sessions to management and staff; • Provides information and advice to management and staff; • Participates in project teams and work groups.

Specific Functions • Produces original content explaining the work of the Organization based on technical and administrative material available as well as background and staff interest stories related to the work of the Organization for an internal audience worldwide; • Provides assistance in the coordination of materials designed for an internal audience and related activities, such as events to ensure timely and accurate publication of content to internal channels, according to corporate needs and priorities; • Drafts, edits and designs a variety of corporate communications, ensuring consistency with FAO’s corporate communication policy; • Develops the production of a variety of materials including graphic and video content for internal communication (IC) channels; • Coordinates, writes and finalizes communication plans related to content produced for internal communications.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements • Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, social science, political science, humanities or a related field. • Three years of relevant experience in communication, intranet/web publishing and/or design. • Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of either French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable. • Extent and relevance of experience in communications, intranet/web publishing and/or design. • Ability to write, edit and synthesize complex messaging in English for an internal audience. • Extent and relevance of experience in producing content, in particular graphic and video content for internal channels. • Advanced knowledge of Adobe creative suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro). • Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
