Key Responsibilities:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This job position involves coordinating with the Communications Coordinator and WASH Portfolio Manager, as well as other project-based communication focal points to develop key communication resources aimed at donors, the public, and to a certain extent, educating and influencing beneficiary behavior within the WASH Portfolio. The role encompasses contributing to Humanitarian Emergency Affairs Communication and Corporate Communications, offering broad support to the Communications and Public Engagement Manager. Responsibilities include leading public and media engagements for the WASH Portfolio, enhancing World Vision PNG's presence on social media and its website regarding WASH, advocating to elevate WVPNG's profile in WASH, and supporting the creative and content development for the WASH Portfolio. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in shaping the Communications and Public Engagement Business Plan/Strategy for PNG to bolster the office’s reputation and trust, as well as enhance program/project effectiveness through strategic communications.

MAJOR ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

I) Lead in Public & Media Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key local print, radio and TV media
  • Network, develop and maintain positive relationships with media and communications personnel integration and WV SO.
  • Planning and implementing local visits by important donors, journalists and film crew

ii) Maintain and Update Content for WVPNG Social Media Platforms (5 platforms)

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key local print, radio and TV media
  • Network, develop and maintain positive relationships with media and communications personnel integration and WV S0.
  • Planning and implementing local visits by important donors, journalists and film crews.
  • Implement International Communication strategies and initiatives where appropriate at the local level.

iii) Materials Production/publication Document Management

  • Design and produce a steady flow of written, photographic, and video resources on local programs and projects for use in the communications for the WASH programs within the WASH portfolio.
  • Respond to WV SO on specific requests for information on stories and photos on projects that they fund.
  • Create news for WV Partnership publications.
  • Ensure documents and photographs are uploaded to the partnership communications database (WV Photo Library) for universal access.

iv) Training and Capacity Building

  • Provide media and communications training and related support to identify key spokespeople, and other technical staff.
  • Inform and educate staff on key communications protocols (e.g., media engagement). Develop and oversee such protocols for the WV PNG context.
  • Provide training and capacity building to project staff to strengthen resource-gathering functions, Story Hub, WV relief etc.. other WV platforms
  • On request from the Regional Communications director and with approval of the National Director, be released from WV PDG for an agreed period to assist with large-scale global and regional humanitarian disasters.
  • Receive appropriate training (PRRT) to ensure readiness for this function.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism in a relevant field.
  • Proven management ability to work independently

  • At least 2 years experience in communications or media or public relations position or similar responsibilities
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office computer programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and/or web-based tools and social media platforms
