FUNCTION:

The primary function of the Communication Officer is to support the Knowledge Management and Communication (KM&C) Manager in overseeing the internal and external communication efforts that align with the vision, mission, and branding of Heifer International. This includes creating communication and visibility materials, coordinating study tours and volunteer activities and assisting with other administrative tasks as per the need.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES****: (****including approximate percentage effort)

Internal and External Communication (40%)

  • Assist KM&C Manager in developing visibility and communication related materials, in collaboration with other relevant departments.
  • Develop and disseminate newsletters, annual report, factsheets, booklets, manuals, etc. to donors, partners, government organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and prepare engaging content (stories, photos, videos) from the project areas as per Heifer’s standards and guidelines.
  • Coordinate visits from donors, headquarters, media, and thematic teams to project areas, providing updates on the recent progress and achievements of various projects and programs.
  • Update and maintain Heifer Nepal's website and online social media channels.
  • Respond to messages on social media channels and engage in conversations with our followers and supporters.
  • Coordinate and organize national and international campaigns, events, workshops, etc.
  • Develop communication materials, such as social media graphics, infographics, presentations, banners, brochures, etc. as per the requirements.
  • Support in implementing communication, advocacy, and outreach strategies in Heifer projects/ programs.

Branding and marking (20%)

  • Ensure visibility and branding in all project areas as per Heifer’s branding guidelines.
  • Ensure internal and external communication are in line with the vision, mission and branding of Heifer International.
  • Ensure compliance with branding requirements for donors and partner organizations.
  • Provide support and training to field staff and partner organizations in preparing branding and visibility materials.

Media mobilization (20%)

  • Develop relationships and network with international, national and local media in raising Heifer’s profile and brand awareness among the wider audiences.
  • Prepare press releases, news, blogs and event reports and disseminate to the relevant media agencies as per the need.
  • Coordinate news and events coverage in print/visual media and social media.

Documentation and Knowledge Management (15%)

  • Work closely with the Program Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) department to assist in the management and documentation of information and knowledge.
  • Support KM&C Manager in implementing Heifer’s Knowledge Management Strategy/Plan.
  • Identify and publish key documents from Heifer’s project areas.
  • Maintain repository to archive Heifer’s publications and important documents.

May perform other job-related duties as assigned (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in Mass communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Social Science, or other related field with a minimum of three (3) years of working experience in a similar context.
  • Excellent in both verbal and written communication in English and Nepali Languages.
  • Experience in developing content for website and social media posts.
  • Able to use graphic designing and video editing software will be an added advantage.
  • Creative and innovative in developing content.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Good leadership qualities and communication skills.
  • Experience in event management and planning.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media tools.
