Functional Responsibilities

The Communication Field Associate is responsible for providing field support, including translation, content gathering, reporting on programme activities and identification of compelling stories and individuals, to the Communication Team and key external partners, to enable UNICEF to be a leading voice for children. The position is largely based in Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps, with some other mission travel and Amman-based work involved.

Tasks and duties:

  1. Support the identification of case studies to highlight Programmatic work and raise awareness of issues relating to children.
  2. Create compelling multimedia content (photos, video, written stories and other social media content) on the situation of children and parents, and the impact of UNICEF programmes for multiple platforms including digital and printed materials;
  3. Assist in the field production of high quality multimedia content including photographs, video and other multimedia projects involving external providers.
  4. Attend events, openings, distributions in the camps for content creation and reporting.
  5. Support translation and interpretation for colleagues, contractors and external partners including media.
  6. Work with Programme staff, partners and volunteers for further content gathering.
  7. Write case studies and detailed captions to support multimedia work and advocacy.
  8. Maintain a database of stories and case studies.
  9. Monitor and ensure correct use of UNICEF brand at programme sites.
  10. Liaise with Communication Specialists to coordinate and execute all donor communication requirements, ensuring all deadlines are met and visibility is in place.
  11. Represent the Communication Section at meetings as requested.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • Bachelor degree in communication/external relations or other fields related to the work of UNICEF is required. Master degree in a related area is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working in communication, media, or multimedia production is required.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
  • Excellent photography skills
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in close collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to deliver within strict deadlines.
