  • At least 5 years of experience working on communications activities for international organizations, UN Agencies, NGOs, or political campaigns is required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

Duties and Responsibilities Background: Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) is a unique global initiative for improving local resilience through advocacy, capacity building, sharing knowledge and connecting multiple layers of government and building partnerships. Through delivering a clear 3-stage roadmap to urban resilience, providing tools, access to knowledge and monitoring and reporting tools, MCR2030 will support cities on their journey to reduce risk and build resilience. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) serves as the regional secretariat for MCR2030 in Asia-Pacific. Sharing experience among cities are one of the key elements of MCR2030. Success stories will help cities to learn from other cities’ experience and adapt to their own context. It will increase opportunities of the cities to connect with cities and participating entities who provide relevant services and tools to response to cities’ needs and requirements along their resilient roadmap.

Duties and Responsibilities: ROAP seeks to hire a communication consultant who will support MCR2030 in Asia and the Pacific. She/ He will work with Associate Programme Management Officer of UNDRR ROAP in the communication of MCR2030, highlight impact through communication products to increase visibility of MCR2030, and to share success stories of MCR2030 in Asia and the Pacific. Specifically, the Communication Consultant will complete the task effectively and efficiently about, but not limited to, the given outline below. 1. MCR2030 Newsletter – the consultant will contact MCR2030 Regional Coordinating Committee members and MCR2030 partners to follow up on the updates which will be added in the Newsletter. 2. MCR2030 success stories – the consultant will coordinate and have discussions/ interviews with MCR partners (i.e. cities, national government, association of municipalities, RCC members, participating entities, etc.) of MCR countries in Asia and Pacific to understand the successes and progress on MCR2030 in that particular country. The stories should capture how the national government or association of local government/ cities have benefited (where applicable) and the achievements and learnings from the work of the MCR2030 efforts.

Outputs of work assignment: 1. First draft of four success stories by 31 May 2022 (10 days) 2. MCR2030 newsletter by 30 June 2022 (10 days) 3. Final draft of four success stories by 30 July 2022 (5 days)

Payment will be made in two instalments upon satisfactory delivery of the agreed outputs according to this schedule: 1. 40% upon delivery of output 1. 2. 60% upon completion of output 2 and 3, upon verification by UNDRR.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: University Degree or equivalent in Communications, International Relations, Public Policy, Social Science or other related fields. Experience: At least 5 years of experience working on communications activities for international organizations, UN Agencies, NGOs, or political campaigns is required. Language: Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
