ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization in saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, improving nutrition situation of vulnerable people, and working with smallholder farmers and communities to increase livelihoods and build resilience. WFP operates its programmes in 92 countries with 6 regional offices and 88 country offices globally.

WFP Guinea Country Office is one of the 88 country offices. WFP has been present in Guinea since 1964 providing nutritious and immediate food assistance to affected populations during and in the aftermath of crises. WFP Guinea Country Office works in partnership with the Government to improve children’s school attendance and performance, enhance nutrition among the population, increase people’s livelihoods, build sustainable food systems and communities’ resilience to shocks whilst improving their access to profitable and stable agricultural markets.

The Partnerships and Communication Unit under the Country Office works to position WFP with public, private and external partners to attract policy support, resources, technical assistance and innovative solutions to advance the work of WFP in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide specialised communications services that support the creation of content and services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Partnership & Communication Officer, the incumbent will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of communication strategies in order to maintain and enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation in Guinea, in accordance to corporate guidelines, standards and procedures.

  • Coordinate the implementation of country communication plans against defined performance indicators, ensuring consistent positioning to achieve WFP’s mission.

  • Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective design and delivery of audience-specific communication products. Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials to ensure these are organized and easy to access.
  • Support pro-active media engagement and monitoring, analysing trends and identifying opportunities. Serve as main focal point for media relations.
  • Manage social media channels by planning, developing and disseminating content, in coordination with relevant colleagues.
  • Support donor visibility by coordinating specific content development including text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of platforms.
  • Respond to communication-specific queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
  • Coordinate the development, preparation, execution and evaluation of communication and advocacy campaigns.
  • Support internal communication to secure employees’ engagement to achieving WFP’s mission.
  • Provide advice, guidelines and support to employees on WFP’s branding;
  • Support capacity building of WFP staff on communication and advocacy including by providing timely and appropriate training.
  • Support Partnerships and other teams on external engagement as required. Organise and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

  • Has 6 years of experience, at least 4 of which must be in the field of Communication

  • Has experience in guiding and supervising junior staff

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Advanced university degree in journalism, international relations, public relations, communication or a post-secondary certificate in the related functional area, with at least 2 years’ experience in the field of Communication.

Functional capabilities:

  • Excellent skills in photography, graphic design, video editing.
  • Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in communication (including media relations, social media management and audiovisual content production).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to persuade, influence and adapt to different audiences and situations.
  • Ability to analyse large amounts of diverse information, identify trends and provide solutions. Strong conceptual thinking.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and results-driven.
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements and problems and juggle with competing priorities successfully against tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrated capacity to assume responsibility and take initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis.

  • Sound understanding of Guinea’s sociopolitical context.

Language****:

Fluency in oral and written French and English, in addition to local languages.
