The country office through the new Cooperation Program Document 2022-2026 plans to make visible and advocate for children's rights in emergency contexts with the objective that the main donors and prospective donors can see the impact of the work of UNICEF in the country and how the work that is carried out impacts the lives of Honduran children and adolescents.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direction of the Communication Specialist, this position is responsible for developing and coordinating communication plans to work on responses to COVID-19 and other emergencies. He or she will network and build alliances with partners, media and actors on the ground to help respond to the needs of children and communities affected by emergencies. The Emergency Communication Assistant will support communication related to broader emergency response and recovery, as well as products and activities associated with the emergency response and recovery plan.

Key Functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:

  • Support the organizing of visits by donors, National Committees, and UNICEF goodwill ambassadors by providing administrative support as well as field support (e.g. accompanying visits and providing interpretation when needed)
  • Support visits by international media including facilitating accreditation and permits from government authorities.Gather human interest stories to be used in a variety of formats (feature articles, web features, photo stories, AVPs or videos) to showcase UNICEF’s role in emergencies.
  • Support the Communication Specialist in maintaining up-to-date national and international media mailing list.
  • Produce and organize work inputs in videos and photographs to prepare a wide variety of coverage of UNICEF’s response to emergencies.
  • Provide timely emergency-focused contributions for the national, regional and international online platforms.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights in emergency context
  • Promote a better understanding of, respect and support for children’s and women’s rights and issues by carrying out advocacy activities in support of UNICEF programmes and humanitarian efforts in Honduras.
  • Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media, UNICEF National Committees, local individual and corporate donors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate donor visibility, external donor visits as needed.
  • Feed into the Regional/Country Office/Media Hub’s contact list of individuals, groups, organizations and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), whose support is essential to assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives of the communication strategy for the emergency response.
  • Ensure or enhance the quality, consistency and appropriateness of country-specific communication materials, activities, processes and messages shared with partners.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the capacity of partners through appropriate advocacy and communication training, access to information, supplies and equipment and through knowledge sharing.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education is required.
  • First level university degree in communication is an asset.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in communication in emergencies, communication, brand content production or interactive digital platforms.
  • Experience in international organization or non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian ) or a local language is an asset.
