How can you make a difference?

In collaboration with the Senior Communications Associate and under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, the Communication Assistant will support with technical, administrative and operational support to plan, execute, monitor and report on all social media assets produced and disseminated via all UNICEF Uganda digital platform.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

• Facilitate production of graphic designs, visual and audio concepts and materials.

• Support the production of social media assets for digital communication.

• Contribute to driving audience focused engagement.

• Provide administrative support to the planning, execution, monitoring and reporting of the UNICEF Uganda communication strategy and social media and graphic assets produced.

• Support the management of UNICEF Uganda digital platforms.

1. Facilitate production of graphic designs, visual and audio concepts and materials

• Support the designing of compelling packages including infographics, presentations and materials for various audiences on social media and web.

• Provide graphic design support to sections for content to be disseminated on social media use (including editing/updating of designs)

• Supports in-house production of audio-visual and visual materials with graphics for social media.

• Maintains library of all digital multi-media materials (assets) produced.

• Maintains an online library of open files of graphic design and publications in case of future edits.

2. Support the production of social media assets for digital communication

• Support the production of social media content/assets including text, audio, visual, video, media and interactive content for digital dissemination. This includes receiving content production requests and advising the supervisor if in-house production or contracting is required to ensure timely production of advocacy and communication materials for digital dissemination, share all developed social media content and to ensure quality assurance (e.g., correct format, control, translations, reviews layout, ensures content clearance for publication etc.).

• Scan UNICEF Uganda comparators, online websites to identify the best content to create and ensure the content is backed by data, evidence on Ugandan children.

• Support to map out UNICEF Uganda’s online audiences and advise on the best interactive content that reaches the different audiences wherever they choose to engage and across all platforms.

• Supports monitoring and inputs to the content production and planning calendars (social media related).

3. Contribute to driving audience focused engagement

• Conduct a deeper analysis of UNICEF Uganda potential audiences’ interests and habits and propose multiple options for engagement with UNICEF.

• Support the implementation of UCO digital communication strategy.

• Support to follow up and grow UNICEF Uganda engagement.

• Working closely with the Communication team to drive the implementation of digital influencer outreach strategies aimed at expanding UNICEF Uganda’s reach with new audiences, build UNICEF trust and brand among the audiences.

• Co-create content with young people and beneficiaries.

• Pre-test content.

• Analyze UCO comparators in Uganda and East African region to guide UCO content production and dissemination on digital platforms.

4. Provide administrative support to the planning, execution, monitoring and reporting of the UNICEF Uganda communication strategy and social media assets produced

• Process contracts for consultants and external partners/service providers engaged to support digital content production and graphic. This includes preparing and filing documents, completing necessary forms and templates, and making logistical arrangements.

• Collect invoices, check invoices in consultation with the Communication Specialist and submit documents for approval. Liaises with programme associate and programme assistant for payments.

• Maintains detailed records of all contracted work for content production (social media and graphics design related).

• Support administrative and logistics support to digital communication production missions.

5. Support the management of UCO digital platforms

• Support to update UNICEF Uganda’s social media platforms (ie Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, etc) with relevant content, including liaising with Communication Specialist to respond to comments from the general public in a timely manner when required.

• Support to monitor performance of UCO digital platforms to provide analytics of reach, engagement and suggestions to improve the sites basing on feedback from audiences when required. In addition, measure engagement activities online to identify which are most useful to the audiences.

• Timely contributions to digital analytic reports that measure the impact of social media content and provide analysis with interactive learning insights to optimize content and advise on strategic direction.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related in graphic designing, illustrations, mass communication, journalism, digital communication, multimedia communication and related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible digital communication production work experience is required with experience working in various media formats: online, audio, video, photography and graphics and managing active digital and social media sites.
  • Practical professional work experience in graphic design and digital publishing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest digital production and editing software (especially for video editing, photo editing and graphic design)
  • Creative skills in the following industry tools (Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, Photoshop) to be able to produce a wide range of compelling social media content
  • Practical professional work experience in interactive digital and social media
  • Experience in digitizing and video streaming and creating graphics for the web and other multimedia services. Basic video production and editing.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required (reading/writing/speaking). Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
