This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer, the UN Volunteer will have the following tasks:

  • Support advocacy and awareness raising on COVID-19 vaccination and vaccine confidence
  • Support communication and visibility on COVID-19 related interventions
  • Drafting of news articles on ongoing CO’s initiatives, projects or meetings to be published regularly on the Country Office website and in newspapers.
  • Support research and development of compelling content for the social media channels of the Office
  • Support the development of content, including articles, videos and photo essays for the Country Office website and for newsletters
  • Support the planning, implementation and evaluation of communication and advocacy campaigns
  • Under the guidance of the Communication officer, support the development of visibility materials and documenting stories on projects implemented by the office
  • Support media events including press conferences, launches and campaigns
  • Support with assigned tasks from the Communication Officer in respect of the United Nations Communication Group (UNCG)
  • Support media review and tracking, and keep record of CO’s visibility in local and international media
  • Follow up with programme staff to ensure timely submission of donor reports for review before submission
  • Support desk review to aid knowledge management, identify innovative programme model and new donor interest in the Gambia
  • Attend events and write articles, in absence of the Communication Officer
  • Support scaling up and management of U-Report, including in digital communication, U-Reporters’ engagement and the development and roll out of polls

Communication, Journalism, Social Sciences, Arts or Education

Experience remark

Minimum of five (3) years of experience after graduation, experience working in journalism, publishing firm, or Non-governmental organisation will be of added value.

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
