This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Specialist Youth/ASRH (Project Focal Point) and the Communication Analyst the two National UN Youth Volunteer will:

  • Regularly develop contents and update social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc.) and lead efforts to mobilize followers and improve UNFPA Liberia’s presence on social media platforms
  • Coordinate the collection, editing, design and layout of contents for social media channels
  • Regularly participate in programme activities (workshops, meeting, field missions) to collect contents for real-time/live social media coverage
  • Assists in producing advocacy and communication materials such as short movies, high quality images, other printed and audio-visual products.
  • Assists in Creation and promotion of campaigns to local, national and international media on UNFPA Programme and achievements.
  • Assist in the analysis of media publications and mentions of thematic areas related to UNFPA mandate, flag the issues of concern to the appropriate Unit for response or possible intervention
  • Monitor international and national communication initiatives/campaigns/projects on promotion of sexual and reproductive health, youth, GBV prevention and response.
  • Maintains information database and photo library
  • Contribute to the development and establishment of an innovative platform/Apps to support UNFPA’s three (3) transformative goals: Zero preventable maternal mortality, Zero unmet needs for Family Planning and Zero sexual & gender-based violence and harmful practices in collaboration with the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY).
  • Support the development of a communication strategy in collaboration with Youth Advisor/ Focal Point and young people to improve effective promotion to young people, parents and the wider community.
  • Assists in the preparation of presentations and briefing materials.
  • Assists in supporting donor’s visibility efforts by contributing to communication and visibility products customized to various donor’s requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with youth networks
  • Maintains information database and photo library.
  • Carry out any other communications-related duties as may be required by the assigned Unit and UNFPA

Programme/Administrative Support:

  • Support in organizing and documenting meetings and other activities related to youth development programmes
  • Support activities to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders and young people to identify and prioritize current needs, services and assets that can be built on.
  • Assist in the coordination, planning, implementation and monitoring of projects and activities targeted at young people within the framework of the UNFPA country programme
  • Support the encouragement of local youth to participate in local, national and regional programs and organizations, and connect them with peers through creating and supporting youth networks across levels
  • Assist in recording information and preparing reports concerning youth programs, costs, number of participants and equipment and facility use
  • Assist with monthly and yearly reports about youth programs and opportunities.
  • Supports all administrative tasks of the Unit
  • Provides logistical support for field missions, events, and outreach for the Unit
  • Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience managing social media accounts and websites
  • Demonstrated interest in and/or experience in the areas of gender-based violence, youth and adolescent reproductive health and gender equality is an asset
  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Web and graphic design, Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Other communications related experience

Area of expertise details:

  • Communication, journalism, public information
  • Advanced social media user with sound experience of managing social media accounts and websites
  • Good spoken and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to conduct presentations
