Contract

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. Communication Assistant will be assigned in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and will provide programme support to the FAO Representation Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Within the delegated authority and under the overall supervision of FAOR and direct supervision of National Communication Specialist of FAO Kyrgyzstan office or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:
• Support the management of the FAO social media channels (Facebook, Instagram). • Supporting with the creation of content such as short articles, interviews, infographics etc. • Supporting with the creation of content for social media such as graphic cards, posts, slideshows etc. • Monitor metrics of FAO’s social media channels. • Rewrite and edit written outputs such as feature articles, press releases etc. • Proofread articles and material as necessary. • Support production of audio-visual material such as video interviews, podcasts etc. • Liaise with FAO Country Office and projects regarding production of specific items (e.g. articles, brochures etc). • Assisting with the organization and coverage of events. • Assisting with the creation and updating of external publications (e.g. brochures, postcards, posters); and internal reference documents (e.g. media and social media mapping). • Assists interacting with the media, with a view to maximizing visibility, enhancing reputation, and forestalling negative media reaction to any FAO activity.

Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, is a modern and rapidly developing urban center known for its green parks, boulevards and squares. The city offers a high standard of living with access to various amenities including shopping centers, restaurants, and recreational facilities. Bishkek has both hot dry summer continental and mediterranean climate depending which isotherm would be used, so appropriate clothing is necessary. The mountains to the south provide a natural boundary and protection from much of the damaging weather, as does the smaller mountain chain which runs north-west to south-east. Public transportation is well-developed, making it easy to navigate the city. Healthcare services in Bishkek are of a high standard, and there are several international schools and cultural institutions. Overall, Bishkek provides a comfortable and vibrant living environment for international staff and volunteers.
