The purpose of this assignment is to support the WHO Bahrain Country Office in communicating on relevant health issues, developments and findings; promoting the work of WHO at national level; and contributing to communications activities on delivering the WHO Programme of Work at Regional Strategy 2023 towards health for all by all.

The purpose of this assignment is to support the WHO Bahrain Country Office in communicating on relevant health issues, developments and findings; promoting the work of WHO at national level; and contributing to communications activities on delivering the Programme of Work at country under the supervision of the WHO Representative, the UN Volunteer will:

• Assist to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate communications action plan for the WHO Country Office. • Assist to plan and develop, with support from RO (Regional Office) staff when necessary, communications messages and products on country work for public and professional groups (policymakers and health professionals, media, web and social media audiences, and the public). • Assist to develop and deliver selected public health and health care campaigns (e.g. communicable and non-communicable diseases, vaccination, mental health, digital health, health care workers, health system developments, universal health coverage, the Sustainable Development Goals), including messages, written and multimedia materials, dissemination and follow-up. • Contribute to Regional communications strategies and plans, and coordinate/ share information with the Regional communications team on key communications activities including capacity building. • Network, coordinate and manage the contacts of key communications counterparts among UN partners, authorities and communications outlets at national level. • Ensure proper visibility and support to partner engagement initiatives and collaboration (including development partners and donors) through development and dissemination of relevant communications products. • Support to CO in managing resource partner engagement including assisting in proposal development and reporting. • Create and maintain social media accounts, and WHO CO website in close coordination with the RO, in line with required procedures and guidelines. • Support the WHO Representative on strategic external and internal communications. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

  • Results/Expected Outputs As an active WHO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to the WHO Country Office and Regional Office and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Development of one-year country communications plan. • Establishment of communications calendar of campaigns, events, initiatives and opportunities. • Production of communications materials on relevant PW/national and regional health issues. • Active and up to date CO website and social media accounts. • Attendance meeting with MoH, national partners and collaboration when needed. • Participation at national UN communications meetings. • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and • capacities developed

or demonstrated interest in relevant training in journalism, communication, organizing advocacy campaigns and media relations, developing content for traditional/social media and in the production of communications materials and products. Desirable: background about WHO/UN. • Ability to produce engaging communication materials in English. • Proven skills in the development and implementation of communications/media products and tactics, including relations with the press and media.
• Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to conceptualize ideas and promote consensus.
• Ability to work under pressure while producing results.
• Knowledge or sound understanding of the health communications and familiarity with other relevant communications fields such as Risk and Crisis Communications, as well as Social Mobilization.
• Ability to "think out of the box" and to make innovative proposals to extend communication reach.
• Tact, discretion and diplomacy.
• Excellent presentation skills with proven ability to write in English and Arabic in a clear and concise manner. • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge and build communications capacity. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. World, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Skills in visual design. • Well-versed in Social media and web publishing. • Hands-on skills to take photo and video shots for social media use. • Familiarity with use of visuals or images for presentation and web purposes.

Workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Egypt make up the largest foreign communities. The Kingdom of Bahrain joined the UN in 1971 and signed an updated Strategic Partnership Framework with the UN country team in 2021.

According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Bahrain is a family duty station (category A hardship). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
