Cameroon has just adopted its National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS30), which will be the basis for the next United Nations Development Assistance Framework. Anchored in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and committed to universality, equality and leaving no one behind, the global UNDP vision through the Strategic Plan 2022-2025 is to help countries achieve sustainable development by advancing the eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development, and strengthening resilience to shocks and crises.

For the visibility of activities carried out in the field in the framework of the implementation of its projects, UNDP Cameroon is recruiting a National UN Volunteer, Communication Clerk. Under the direct supervision of the Communication Analyst, he/she will work with UNDP staff as well as with projects and follow up with other UN agencies for coverage and communication on events. Write articles, social media publications and reports in accordance with the country office communication strategy.

Under the close supervision of the Country Office (CO) Communication focal point, the Communication Analyst, the communication Assistant will:

  1. Provide administrative support to communications and advocacy outreach activities. Provide logistical support to communications and advocacy efforts and campaigns, e.g., by supporting the organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences, and other publicity events, and providing inputs to briefing materials and press releases, as necessary.
  2. Provide administrative support to the development and production of the CO communications and advocacy materials. Draft press releases, articles, key messages, and other advocacy materials. Support the taking of pictures and shooting videos Support contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure the production of materials. Maintain library/ database of reference materials and photos.
  3. Provide support in the management of the CO's social media presence and website. Gather information for the development of content for the CO website and social media channels. Update the website and social media channels, as required. Maintain files, databases, and systems relevant to the CO’s digital presence. Track and monitor social media and report relevant information to CO staff. Regularly research, compile and produce reports on web statistics, and electronic surveys. Design and create social media content (infographics, videos, GIFs, social media cards etc.).
  4. Provide media relations support to the CO. Update and maintain the database of the relevant press in the country. Respond to requests for information, as delegated. Gather and compile inputs for talking points.
  5. Facilitate knowledge management and sharing. Contribute to the identification of best practices and lessons learned. Support the organization of training sessions and workshops on communication practices. Support regular meetings of CO communications focal points.
  6. Other. Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the CO.

  7. Results/expected outputs:

Timely inputs to communication and advocacy materials. Timely organization of logistical support to discussions, conferences, briefings, and other events. Timely delivery of quality administrative support. Webpages are well-maintained.

professional work experience at the national and/or international level with at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in providing support to the development and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans. Experience in the use of computer applications and software packages (Adobe creative suit, Microsoft, etc.) as well as web-based management systems. • Experience in the use of social media, knowledge of taking quality pictures and videos. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Proficiency in graphic design software will be an asset. • Ability to create, edit and present information in clear and presentable formats, using appropriate IT functionality.

Yaounde is the political capital of Cameroon and the second most populated city in the country after Douala. It is the headquarters of the UN, several international organizations and embassies. Yaounde features a tropical wet and dry climate with constant temperatures throughout the year and high temperatures ranging from 27 to 29 degrees C. Yaounde also features a lengthy wet season covering a ten-month span between February and November. However, there is a noticeable decrease in precipitation within the wet season, seen during the months of July and August.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
