You have:

  • 2-3 years of experience in communications, managing social media, and experience in environment and climate change communications is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners.

Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

In September 2019, UNDP launched its ‘climate promise’ - a commitment to support at least 100 countries enhance their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement by 2020, to support new ways governments can step up their climate actions, and to finance bold new goals. UNDP has also initiated a strategic partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to work together to accelerate and scale-up efforts to drive transformative action to achieve the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A central pillar of this partnership is to help deliver the UNDP climate promise in 2020 and beyond, including coordinated advocacy and communications initiatives to shift attitudes and behaviors on climate change.

Within this context, strategic communications play will capitalize on the general awareness that was raised in Egypt about COP27 to advance climate change adaptation actions as part of the implementation of NDCs. This support will play a central role to help design and start delivering a package of actions to shift attitudes and behaviors on climate change for targeted audience in the water sector. Multiple communications tools are needed to deliver communication messages and products to the target audience. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is a key player in Egypt’s climate change adaptation action, the UN Volunteer will be operating from the Ministry's premise.

Under the supervision of the UNDP Assistant Resident Representative for Climate Change and the UNDP Communications Analyst, and in consultation and coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Communication Assistant will be responsible for a number of tasks for a duration of a year.

• Design generic/static social media posts per month related to climate change adaptation actions related to "water uses", "irrigation methods", canal rehabilitation, nature-based solutions, recycling drainage water, ground water (solar water pumping), etc. • Develop ideas for bilingual documentaries. • Develop a professional PowerPoint template to be used by the Minister and the ministry at high level meetings. • Write compelling content on social media. • Track all social media pages that write any posts about the ministry/ or the Minister. • Support the outreach of the Ministry's social media pages;=. • Coordinate with the Media team at the Ministry and supervise the designs created by the team. • Support the preparation of animated and interactive presentations. • Accessible to work remotely with different time zones (in case of writing captions & posting on social media).

In addition to; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in UNDP’s work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
