With over 850 indigenous languages and one of the most ethnically diverse populations, widespread poverty, and gender inequality make it hard for many children to realize their rights. In Papua New Guinea, UNICEF’s works effectively both ‘upstream’ (with governments) and ‘downstream’ (at the grassroots level) to carry out its mission through a programme of cooperation jointly developed with the government guides our work in the country.

How can you make a difference?

To support advocacy and visibility efforts of UNICEF PNG by providing strategic technical support to the Communication Unit for the roll out of communication plans around key major events and managing UNICEF PNG’s digital and social media engagement.

Scope of Work

1. Communication:

  • Support development, implementation and documentation of communication plans for key priority events -CRC@30 in PNG commemoration - and roll out of UNICEF new Country Programme 2024 – 2028
  • Support content generation for use on country office website and YouTube
  • Support development of visibility material and procurement of supplies for specific high-level events
  • Manage communication repository for all communication products
  1. Social Media
  • Development, management and implementation of social media plan
  • Development of content management plan and calendar for regular content on program priorities, key events and international days of significance
  • Content generation
  • Engagement with social media users, monitoring and addressing comments, questions, queries etc
  • Production of social media reports and analytics
  • Identification of digital influencers who can support advocacy messaging

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

A completed university degree in one of the following disciplines is required:

Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Communication or Humanities

Minimum four years of relevant professional experience in communication work and social media work.

Three to four years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, marketing or Public Relations in UN agency or international NGO.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

Public speaking, presentation skills, photography, videography and editing skills are important assets.

3 years experience in social media management

Experience in sourcing and managing content development and publishing

Experience in reporting on qualitative and quantitative analytics

Demonstrated ability to operate on both a strategic and tactical level, touching all aspects of the digital communication plan; including SEO advertising campaigns; creative, strategic and tactical messaging

High ethical standards and understanding of sensitivities pertaining to child-related /child rights issues.

This position is a short-term assignment and doesn’t give rise to a long-term permanent post with the organization.

Applicants are required to include in their applications a financial proposal which includes a lumpsum amount for consultancy fees, local transportation and other miscellaneous costs. Breakdown or details of the fee will be much appreciated.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
