Organizational Setting
FAO Bangladesh established the Cox’s Bazar programme and sub-office in 2017, after the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. The sub-office implements projects under two workstreams, namely food security and livelihood and natual resource management, in support of both Bangaldeshi host and Rohingya refugee populations in the Cox’s Bazar sub-districts. FAO Cox’s Bazar works with government partners, other UN organizations, and development partners and is an active stakeholder in inter-sector programming and interventions.
Reporting Lines
The Communication and Reporting Assistant is under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, day to day supervision/ guidance of the FAO Head of Sub-office in Cox’s Bazar and works in close collaboration with the Country Office in Dhaka.
Technical Focus
This is a SC-4 level position. The incumbent shall familiarize him/herself with FAO’s corporate communication policy and operational guidelines to ensure mandatory coherence of all communication and information outputs. He or she will need to work within the framework of the overall annual communications plan of FAO Bangladesh and be expected to develop and implement his or her own annual plan and deliverables. The incumbent will be expected to work on communication requirements for Cox’s Bazar.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Develop, maintain and update a communication strategy and work plan, in line with programme priorities and FAO’s corporate communications guidelines. • Research and produce communications materials (in both high-quality English and Bangla) including news releases, human interest stories, newsletter content, brochures, opinion articles, talking points, donor reports, and social media content for Cox’s Bazar, plus other FAO Bangladesh projects as required. • Develop and articulate key messages for external communication and advocacy purposes. • Develop and coordinate production of engaging and informative multimedia products (video and radio) in line with guidelines from the Office of Corporate Communication (OCC). • Oversee graphic design solutions including publication templates, visual presentations, pamphlets, infographics, icons, and other publication materials that illustrate information and make it legible to different audiences and in line with FAO’s logo guidelines. • Take high quality photos and commission professional photography according to OCC production guidelines and advance collaboration with OCCM Photo Editor. • In close collaboration with OCC, support and promote the World Food Day campaign and other observances campaigns including international years, days and UN Decades, on the national level by adapting communication material in Bangla when possible and disseminating them among partners. • Create content for sharing via existing FAO social media channels that raises visibility with key target audiences in line with FAO branding guidelines for social media audiovisual content. • Cultivate relations with the media, organise and facilitate media coverage for events, guide media engagement for technical experts. • Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences. • Set up, organize, and maintain an archive of images and video content. • Organize and archive key project documents. • Lead project communications for World Food Day and other campaigns. • Represent FAO at the country UN Communications Group when required and ensure that FAO’s priorities are reflected. • Ensure visibility of projects and FAO Bangladesh in project partners’ materials and publications and provide guidance on the correct use of the FAO logo, in line with corporate guidelines. • Write and edit progress and final narrative reports for all projects under the Cox’s Bazar programme, together with accompanying cover letters and project highlights, in accordance with FAO Reporting and Editorial Guidelines. • Assist in the preparation, finalization, revision and timely submission of key resource mobilization documents to ensure alignment with FAO standards and donor requirements. • Participate in meetings with other agencies and international organizations to fosters partnerships at Cox Bazar level. • Write and edit various documents, including project proposals, information sheets, situation reports, presentations, etc., ensuring compliance with FAO style and relevant communications guidelines • Organise procurement of communications and reporting products. • Perform other duties as required.
