This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNICEF’s Communication Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV [Communication and Information Management Officer] will:

  • Support the CO and UNICEF projects in the design and branding of outreach-oriented print or other materials related to Covid-19.
  • Increase visibility of UNICEF mandate and SDGs through public website and social media use.
  • Produce high quality photography, videography and other digital media products for CO and projects
  • Support Country Office partnerships and communications units in designing and developing publications when required.
  • Draft press releases, success stories, articles, and other web content and make these available in English and Tetum to facilitate their broader dissemination.
  • Support event planning to promote UNICEF messages among partners, beneficiaries, and others.
  • Undertake field visits to document donor-specific UNICEF’s work and success and produce beneficiary films from the field for different projects and for donors.
  • Provide support on designing infographics, filming, photography, or any digital media work.
  • Provide support on the drafting of minutes of meetings, reports, speeches, talking points, press statements, newsletters, and website articles.
  • Any other tasks as required to support partnerships and communications unit
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, and other relevant area

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • 6-12 months of professional work experience at the national level in journalism, communications, or other relevant programs; experience working in the development sector, UN or other international development organization;
  • Good oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; editing, videography and photography, and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in children’s issue, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System

  • Tetum(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
