Contract

This is a NPSA-7 contract. This kind of contract is known as National Personnel Services Agreement. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 7 years of experience, depending on education. More about NPSA-7 contracts.

Background

The following documents shall be required from the applicants:

The UN Secretary-General established the UN SDG Action Campaign to inspire people and organizations from all backgrounds and every part of the world to take actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, while holding decision-makers to account for progress society-wide. The UN SDG Action Campaign is hosted and supported by UNDP and is based in Bonn (Germany) with a lean team that marshals rapid support for new initiatives as opportunities arise and provides partners with on-demand strategic creative services that inspire SDG local action.

The UN SDG Action Campaign is working closely with cities and local governments to showcase how they are actively contributing to implement Agenda 2030, accelerating transformative action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for all, and everywhere.

Within this context, the UN SDG Action Campaign is seeking to recruit a Communications and Graphic Design Assistant to contribute to the design of contents and communications tools to highlight the role of local and regional governments in implementing Agenda 2030. The local and regional governments are already responsible for over 65% of the SDG targets, most of them linked to basic service provision from water, sanitation, mobility, climate action, health or education. Cities and territories are playing a big part on the implementation of SDGs, that are becoming a new tool for strategic planning and budgeting in the mid to long-term.

The Communication and Graphic Design Assistant will support the SDG Action Campaign activities, providing graphic designs and social media assets to communicate how cities and local governments are implementing Agenda 2030. H/she will elaborate materials to support project activities both in terms of learning, raising awareness on the role of local governments to make Agenda 2030 a reality for all and everywhere. H/she will also facilitate the sharing of stories from participants coming from the local and regional governments, analyze project data and provides the necessary communication tools for targeted public segments.

Finally, the Communication and Graphic Design Assistant will also support the UNDP Country Office in producing communication and visibility material including visuals, articles and infographics for some of the ongoing projects and programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications and Graphic Design Assistant will work with the UNDP-UN SDG Action Campaign Network to do the following:

  • Ensure that the production of communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up in alignment with corporate standards to support the project communication strategy.
  • Collect, arrange and consolidate information and data from the project staff and relevant national stakeholders for use in communications materials and to create infographics.
  • Produce visual identity and communication assets for the project activities linked to learning, sharing and upscale innovative city initiatives.
  • Develop innovative communication materials (e.g., briefing notes, images, video. web pages etc.) that highlight the role played by local and regional governments in the implementation of the SDGs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for communication materials including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
  • Work closely with the UN SDG Action Campaign communication teams to support their efforts to communicate SDG local action.
  • Ensure good quality data collection, analysis and evaluation and reporting so as to deliver effective communication strategies, planning, and effective and efficient advocacy.
  • Support the Country Office in data collection and consolidation to produce effective communication and visibility materials to convey messages, results and achievements in line with the SDG targets, which will also include drafting of press releases
  • Support the Country Office in creating innovative visibility material with the objective of expanding the reach and access to existing and potential UNDP stakeholders through social media and other communication platforms.

Institutional Arrangement

The Communications & Graphic Design Assistant will report to the Project Manager, Global Mayors Challenge Project, based in UNDP New York, working closely with the technical team, UNDP Country Office in Jordan.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Education requirements:- Completion of Secondary education is required; - Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts or similar field is considered an asset.

Min. years of relevant work experience:- A minimum of seven (7) years with High School Diploma and four (4) years with Bachelor’s Degree of relevant work experience in graphic design and communication is required. - Candidates will be required to provide links to previous graphic design projects.

Required skills:- Experience in video making is required; - Experience in the creation of infographics, graphs and charts, is required; - Experience in preparing communication and visibility material including press releases and audio-visual material is required; - Proficiency in the use of Adobe software and MS software packages such as MS Word, Excel & Power point is required.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:- Experience working on Agenda 2030 or other UN Global Agendas will be an asset; - Experience working with global communication campaigns or social advocacy will be an asset; - Experience working with local and regional governments or any other public organizations is an asset; - Excellent oral and communication skills with analytic capacity and demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information in high quality graphics and in effective presentations to different audiences is an asset; - Light HTML + web design and wireframing capabilities is an asset; - Proven experience in design and layout of reports and brochures is an asset; - Proven experience in the development of visibility and communication material and in data collection is an asset.

Required languages:- Proficiency in English and Arabic languages are required; - Working knowledge or any other UN official language will be an asset.
