Result of Service

The ultimate result of this consultancy is the enhancement of the visibility, communication, impact, and efficacy of UNEP's Green Economy activities. This includes successfully planning, coordinating, and executing Environment and Trade events, as well as PAGE (Partnership for Action on Green Economy) high-level events at national, regional, and global levels in 2024 and 2025. The consultancy will result in well-structured and strategically aligned communication efforts that increase awareness of economic and financial transformation for sustainability. By delivering strategic counsel, engaging agendas, and effective participant engagement strategies, the consultancy will ensure these events resonate with and impact target audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) aims to promote sustainable development globally. Within this framework, UNEP's Economy Division, specifically the Resources and Markets Branch in Geneva, manages initiatives like the Green Economy Initiative (GEI) and the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE). These initiatives focus on integrating environmental considerations into economic and trade policies and assisting countries in adopting green economy policies. Additionally, UNEP is involved in the Trade, Development, and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub) project, which focuses on sustainable trade practices and ecosystem resilience. To support these efforts, UNEP requires the expertise of a consultant or individual contractor. The consultant/contractor will contribute to the successful execution of the following key areas within UNEP's work programme.In the context of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), the consultant will support PAGE activities in the 22 partner countries by integrating environmental considerations into their economic and trade policies. They will also assist in the implementation of green economy policies at the national and regional levels. Regarding the Trade, Development, and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub), the consultant will enhance the knowledge, capacity, and partnerships of stakeholders to identify and implement policy solutions for sustainable trade. They will contribute to research dissemination, awareness-raising, and capacity-building activities related to sustainable trade in wild meat, wildlife, and commodities. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate the creation of platforms and partnerships for discussions and the delivery of policy-relevant outcomes and solutions. 1. Preparation, delivery, and dissemination of 2-3 strategic outreach materials a) Development of a detailed and strategic communications plan: -Completion of the communications plan by assigned date. -Identification of at least three key target audiences and channels. b) Production and dissemination of outreach materials: -Number of outreach materials produced (target: 2-3). -Engagement metrics (e.g., open rates for emails, website traffic increase, social media interactions). 2.Preparation, delivery, and dissemination of a strategic session/event a) Development of agenda and preparatory materials: -Agenda and speaker list finalized by assigned date. -Number of speakers/panelists confirmed b) On-site support and session management: -Successful execution of the event with no major logistical issues. -Participant satisfaction rate (target: 80% or higher based on feedback surveys). c) Documentation of session outcomes: -Brief document consolidating key outcomes produced. -Dissemination of the document to all relevant partners and stakeholders. 3. Planning and organization of a strategic event at CBD COP16 ‘Trade Day’ a) Preparatory resources and needs: -Background agenda and speaking points prepared b) Communication materials: -Production and dissemination of communication materials at least 4 weeks before the event. -Reach of promotional materials (e.g., number of views, shares, or engagements). 4. Planning and execution of Coalition Event in Asia a) Stakeholder engagement: -Number of stakeholders engaged and coordinated with -Event attendance rate b)-Documentation of outcomes: -Production of session outcomes document 5. Planning and execution of PAGE Session on OPN Forum a) Session plan development: -Completion of session plan b) Coordination with OPN forum organizers: -Successful integration of the session into the forum agenda c) Review of event panel composition: -Compliance with standard operating procedure metrics (e.g., gender balance, regional representation). d) Documentation of proceedings: -Production of a detailed session report post-session. 6: PAGE Global Campaign on Subsidies a) Campaign strategy development: -Completion of the comprehensive campaign strategy b) Identification of campaign elements: Clear identification of campaign goals, target audiences, and messaging frameworks

Qualifications/special skills

A Master’s degree in international relations, communication, journalism, or a similar discipline Minimum of 5 years of work experience in journalism, communication, and global outreach is required Experience writing professional articles on topics related to economics, trade, environment, and development issues Experience in organizing high-level events and international conferences Experience in creating content for digital communication. Ability to synthesize information in a clear and well-structured manner Ability to work and deliver under pressure and handle multiple activities concurrently

Languages

Excellent proven communication and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
