Draft and edit communication materials, support campaigns and advocacy in child protection.
You have:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, especially in humanitarian or development contexts
- Demonstrated interest in child protection, humanitarian and development actions, communication for development, campaign, media, support of planning, working in NGO context
- Familiarity with social media and digital communication tools
- Fluency in written and spoken French and Kirundi, knowledge of English is an additional asset
- Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable populations and confidential information
- Strong organizational, research, and multitasking abilities
- Ability to take quality video and photographs and edit them for story purpose
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Content Development & Storytelling
- Draft and edit communication materials including success stories, impact stories, to contribute to the programme reports and CO newsletters;
- Draft field content for the SCI website and social media accounts;
- Organizing and leading campaign activities in both humanitarian and development contexts;
- Support the development of advocacy and campaign messages aligned with the programme goals, including amplifying voices of children and other survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV);
- Collect and document field stories, beneficiary testimonials, and programme highlights;
- Acting as a liaison between the CO Advocacy, Communications, Campaign and Media engagement unit;
- Supporting the Programme team for matters of presentation; i.e PowerPoint presentations, and operation reports, final reports and accomplishment briefers.
Branding & Visibility
- Ensure all communication materials align with organizational branding and humanitarian communication standards
- Ensure consistency of organizational branding across the programme materials;
- Assist in designing visual communication materials (graphics, posters, flyers);
- Support documentation of field activities through photos and short videos (where appropriate and ethical).
Child Safeguarding
- Ensuring full understanding of the provisions of the Child Safeguarding Policy, the Code of Conduct and Local/Country Procedures;
- Conducting oneself in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in both personal and professional lives – which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse;
- Ensuring the way he/she is carrying out his/her work is not putting children at risk (or further risk) – this means constantly scrutinizing the work through a child safeguarding lens and talking to children about possible design/implementation “flaws”
- Promoting the message of child safeguarding across the programme, to children in their own and beneficiary families, and community members in general ;
- Being vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and professional lives.

- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the programme management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in:
- Communications, Journalism, Public Relations
- International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, especially in humanitarian or development contexts
- Demonstrated interest in:
- Child protection
- Humanitarian and development actions
- Communication for development, campaign, media, support of planning, working in NGO context
- Familiarity with social media and digital communication tools;
- Strong organizational, research, and multitasking abilities;
- Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable populations and confidential information;
- Fluency in written and spoken French and Kirundi, knowledge of English is an additional asset;
Understanding of and commitment to SCI mission, values and child rights-based programming approaches.
Desirable
- Ability to collect impact stories from the beneficiaries in the field;
- Ability to write stories based on SCI guidelines and SCI templates;
- Capacity to work in an international NGO in humanitarian and development contexts;
- Ability to to take quality video and photographs and edit them for story purpose;
- Proficiency in using MS Word, MS Excel and basic design and multimedia skills (Photoshop, Adobe Suite, InDesign, Illustrator
- Ability to work under pressure.
